‘An oldie but a goodie’ would be much of an understatement for this brocade skirt. I bought it nearly 20 years ago (yeah when I was 1) from a thrift store. It still looks the same as it did back then, much like Will Smith in all of his MIB movies. Because of its flattering shape and floral motifs, it’s never succumb to the seasons. I’m thankful for timeless pieces like this, if our house burnt down I’d probably grab this skirt (if I can find it quick enough in the black hole of my closet room). As I mentioned earlier in the year I’ve been trying to reacquaint with all of my neglected wardrobe pieces, this is one example of that, but I’m finding that 2013 has also given me opportunities to rekindle many friendships that have become stagnant due to geographical, cultural or emotional barriers. I’m so happy to have these friends back in my life and look forward to being there for them more this year. Why do I sound so reflective? You don’t need to make a huge playlist on your iPhone or stock up on Pringles for a tediously long roadtrip. It’s only a 30-minute drive from Melbourne’s CBD, but when you arrive at the idyllic mansion, you will have completely forgotten about the hustle and bustle of our manic existence. That is, until you turn on your phone… So I have a challenge for you, when you head to the Mansion on your next getaway, mention my name (so you can get a hefty discount: $199 for Friday night stay instead of $350, plus a bottle of Champagne), and turn off your phones, so you can enjoy each other’s company, the grandeur of the hotel and the picturesque surrounds of your weekend residence.
