Attending Sophia Kokosalaki’s Show

by cecylia on April 6, 2010

I am sure you would have seen on Twitter all the comments I made about THE highlight of my trip to Paris- attending Sophia Kokosalaki’s AW10 show. I am a big fan of her Grecian-inspired style because I am an antiquity nut who grew up reading Greek mythology. Also I used to be a Titan Quest (an adventure computer game where the hero kills monsters through all the ancient civilizations, starting off at ancient Greece) addict.

I just watched the remake of Clash of the Titans, definitely not as good as the original Perseus was much better looking in the original and the gifts from the gods were actually pretty cool), but who am I to judge Sam Worthington…although there were so many dejavu scenes that were similar to Avatar…

Anyway, I digress. The Sophia Kokosalaki show was held at the Westin, and a fine hotel it is. I have shown far more hotel photos than catwalk photos, because I am a good customer and will not reveal the designer’s new season to the public, guess you will have to come to my boutique in July and see for yourself.

The crowd was buzzing. There were so many cameras. Leigh Lezark rushed past me, she is so pretty.

I managed to get Jo a seat, so we could all watch the show from the 2nd front row. I thought the rich interiors suited the collection beautifully. I love Corinthian columns.

I think I saw Natalie Massenet. I met a lovely lady from the Los Angeles who owns her own online boutique and was hoping to speak to the Net-a-Porter founder too. Actually, I would have been speechless.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw the divine Yasmin Sewell sitting directly opposite me. I eventually gathered up enough courage and went to introduce myself to her. She was so sweet, saying  ’we Aussie girls stick together.’ in her lovely Aussie-Londoner accent.

I know you are all dying to see Sophia’s new stuff, but you will just have to wait =D I am extremely proud to say that our boutique will be the only store in Australia to stock her garments.

Here she is! We spend 45 minutes waiting to be seated, the entire show was less then 15 minutes. The music they played was the most dramatic operatic-style vocal music I’ve ever laid my ears on. It kept singing in my ears afterwards.

The show was brilliant. But the highlight was definitely meeting my favourite Australian fashionista Yasmin Sewell.

Hotel in Paris

by cecylia on March 22, 2010

I have to tell you a funny story about the first night we arrived in Paris. The hotel I booked over the telephone in my broken francais was not what I had expected it to be when we arrived… all the surrounding hotels were fully booked because of the huge influx of customers here for Paris Fashion Week. It was freezing and 10pm on Friday night, and we had no hotel. Thank the Lord, we managed to find a hotel that would take us, the same hotel we stayed at last time -Grande Hotel de l’Univers. It sounds much more grand than it is but it is a pretty decent place. Even the concierge was the same! I was so pleased to see him. He told us all the cool places to eat.

Our hotel is really pretty, in the heart of St Germain and a stroll away from everywhere.

I love the French antique furniture and the buffet breakfast every morning. Here I am in a Miss Sixty jumper, Nudie jeans, vintage boots and Callia wool coat. I stole hubby’s cashmere scarf.

The Ritz on the other hand is really grand. The walkway to the MeMy showroom in the Ritz.

Checking my emails at the Business centre at the Ritz. I love my Pauric Sweeney bag! More on him later =)

Our hotel is nowhere posh and dazzling like the Ritz, but it was a pleasure to stay in.

Have you heard of Antonia Goy

by cecylia on March 19, 2010

At MeMy at The Ritz, I met a lovely German designer by the name of Antonia Goy. She was so sweet and down-to-earth. Her garments were so masterly created, avant-garde but still very wearable pieces of art. I am now an avid fan of her designs. Even though we was lucky enough to get photos with her in her new range, I do not want to spoil it for anybody.  Expect plenty of black wool dresses and silk dresses in gorgeous symmetrical prints.

This was my favourite piece in the collection because it was absolutely freezing in Paris and this cape would have been divine to keep away the chill. I am wearing Nudie jeans and vintage booties. You can see a glimpse of the beautiful silk dress next to Antonia.

Antonia Goy was born in Germany where she graduated in Fashion Design in Parigi at Studio Bercôt and then she attended a Masters at the Kunsthhochschule Berlin-Weissensee in Berlin. She started her own label inn after receiving the CNMI Award given to her womanswear collection at Mittelmoda 2005.
She is based in Berlin. Here are some pictures from her previous collection. Pictures from Indeed Model Management website.

The only German I know is ‘guten tag’ but she spoke fluent English.

The designer flanked by models in her designs. I love the black structural apron dress on the right.

One of my favourite pieces from her AW10 collection is a  simple T-shirt dress encased in slashed drapery. She is one to watch!
