Cape Town

by cecylia on May 21, 2012

The best thing about winter is you can ignore your figure and instead, cuddle up in your thick knits and smart coats or get wrapped in luxurious furs and spirited capes. And eat cake in bed. I would love to meet the person who invented the cape. Was it sheer laziness that they removed sleeves from jackets? Or did they ‘discover’ it by accidentally draping a large blanket over themselves? Either way, I applaud them. Which garment has more versatility, wearability, visibility, and weatherbility (OK this word is made up) than the fabric adorned on the backs of superheroes? (still daydreaming about Thor from The Avengers…)

Being engrossed in work (ie. this website you are eyeing off, working as a vet, and selling clothes for Lisa Ho) and completely ignorant of Sydney’s meteorology bureau, I neglected to bring a jacket to fashion week. But thankfully God created mothers, and mine just happened to have one up her sleeve- a wool cape. Had it not been for this cloak, I would have been in bed with a drip for a nose, during fashion week. Not very chic. Nuh-uh.

Someone else I must thank in this Oscar speech is Samsonite. The night before our trip to Sydney, I shoved everything I thought might come handy for fashion week (in order of importance): clothes, shoes, belts, bags, food, books, chargers, toiletries, and a hand-held steamer, into my new B’Lite FRESH luggage from Samsonite. We had a meagre weight allowance, but I didn’t care, this suitcase weighs next to nothing. Anyone can lift it with one hand!

So, no doubt you’ve seen double denim, but here’s TRIPLE! Denim shirt, jeans and shoes! What’s that? Quadriple denim next time? Challenge accepted.

Where: Queen Victoria Building & Airport, Sydney

Wear: Vintage cape (similar ones here and here), Paula Walden necklace (too delicate for the suitcase!), Sportscraft shirt (similar one here), Diesel jeans, Repetto shoes, vintage belt & bag, B’Lite Fresh luggage c/o Samsonite
