Sponge Bob Square Pants

by cecylia on November 23, 2011

A while back I found this yellow Equipment shirt in the local op shop and started laughing out loud because I have a pair of cotton shorts (not Equipment) at home in the EXACT SAME HUE. Was really tempted to wear it like a jumpsuit for you but thought I might look like a banana, next time, maybe…I love Equipment, founded by Christian Restoin (Carine’s partner) in 1975, is one of the first shirt companies that made menswear for women! Equipment is now backed by hip denim label Current/Elliott who relaunched the label last year and together, they are bringing sexy shirts back. You may recall my cropped pink wool top I wore under a maxi recently? See here, that’s a vintage Equipment top too.

Outfit: vintage straw hat, sunnies and earrings, vintage Equipment shirt, Mimco necklace, Natalia Brilli leather urchin necklace (last seen on my styling work here), gifted Felder Felder bracelet, vintage bracelet, MAWI ring, vintage Gucci bag, vintage shorts, Repetto Mila pumps (last seen here)

My dear dear hubby (Creator and photographer of my blog) gave me this Mimco necklace 4 years ago and can you believe I’ve NEVER worn it! Shame on me! Another accessory I’ve never worn is this adorable pink leather bracelet the Felder Felder girls made especially for me. They made me this orange belt as well. The hip London duo usually only make accessories in darker colours but they made these for me because of my ‘sunny disposition’ :)

Oh, there is still time to enter the Edenborough Evans Double Ring Give-Away!

I had to hide my excited shrill when I discovered this amazing vintage John Cavil silk jacket in a local vintage shop, in this season’s It-colour – tangerine. It was 2 sizes too big and 2 shoulder pads too many, but I loved it. Ladies, size is not that important, what is is how you style it and how you look in it. Just because I’m wearing a Large doesn’t make me a large. In fact, most people would look better if they opted for something 1 size bigger and put on a belt. It’s a cinch!

Like I said in this post, I’m going to try to take my doggies out more often. Both them, and I benefit from the fresh air and vitamin D. Meet Hermes (Jack Russel Cross)  and Theodore (Chihuahua). And thank God these photos were taken before I ruined this top in Napi-san. still wearable…but let’s just say that I am never speaking to Napi-San again.

Milliner’s Soiree

by cecylia on October 17, 2010

I was invited to attend the Kangan Institute’s 2010 Milliner Soiree with guest speaker and original Australian supermodel during the 1950s and 60s Diane Masters . What a fun and frivolous evening it was!

I have always loved hats but never really had the opportunities to wear them much. I must admit I’ve never been to the Races! Partly because of work and partly because I’m not fond of betting on animals. But I’ve collected a pile of vintage head pieces in the past and thought I’d dust one off for the event. However I left home in a rush so I ended up wearing a bow and fishnet head band from Alannah Hill- not a milliner but a creator of all things colourful and ultra-feminine.

It was an absolute pleasure to meet the beautiful and stylish Diane and hearing her deliver her lovely speech in a posh British accent about etiquette in the 1950s. Apparently it was taboo to be on the streets NOT wearing a hat! How times have changed! She taught me an insider’s tip to wear a headband under a hat that’s too big. She quoted Coco Chanel by saying that just as perfume is the best compliment for a lady’s outfit, so is the perfect hat.

I’m wearing a vintage flapper dress with fringe detail. I haven’t worn it since my 21st birthday (a long time ago!) so it was good to give it an outing!

Look how amazing some of the hats were! The pink creation is just amazing. So is her jacket!

Kangan fashionable students modelling each other’s creations. Team spirit! Don’t you love their safety-pin dresses! I would so wear one to the Races…

The highlight of the night was meeting one of my favourite Melbournian milliner Ann Shoebridge (2nd from left). Such a stylish lady and her headpieces are heavenly sweet. Check out more of her creations here.

I met a beautiful young fashion designer student who had the most amazing hand-made necklace, completely from safety pins! Man how long would that have taken her!

Here’s my best friend in the entire world- my husband and I sharing a moment in front of our SLR baby. This event has increased my love for hats a thousand-fold. Expect to see more hats in my posts!

MLY’s 5th Birthday Bash

by cecylia on September 5, 2010

I really wanted to get into the swing of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week this year so I booked a few events to attend in the evening, as I work full-tine during the day. One such event was the 5th Birthday Bash by Miss Lyndel Yeo. The talented Melbournian designer’s Black label has turned half a decade old, so Lyndel decided to hold a runway show for the fashion elite at The Trust. I can’t believe that this girl designs 6 collections per year!

The host of the night was the gorgeous Lindy Klim, who is one of the most beautiful girls in Melbourne, in my view. And she was even more stunning (and slim) in real life!

Lindy and her sister-in-law. Lindy’s dress is from Lyndel’s Black Label collection. I love the sheer half of it. But then again, everything looks good on her.

The gorgeous girl in red is wearing a Miss Lyndel Yeo creation. My Marc Jacobs shoes have such a high heel I didn’t know where I was stepping, until I heard a rip. Her s(p)lit got higher thanks to me, but she thought the dress looked better now thanks to my clumsiness.

When I tried to make a booking for the event a week ago, the tickets were all sold out! But the wonderful Lyndel personally came to the boutique to give me 2 front-row tickets she had up her sleeves =)  Did I mention also that the dress code was ‘Red Carpet’?

Unfortunately all of my floor length gowns are at my parents’ house and I haven’t worn a long dress since my wedding. Since I only had 1 day to prepare my outfit (because I left it to the last minute), I pulled our a velvet trimmed black tuxedo that I had up, my closet.

I bought this outfit over 5 years ago and yes the pants were tighter! I only had 1 day to get in shape and I don’t like not eating. So I went on the exercise bike and read a book. Wish I had a long dress on instead like these ladies…

Aside from seeing Lyndel’s stunning African-themed collection and meeting a Melbourne A-lister, the highlights of the night were meeting Style Melbourne, Samantha from Fashion Recruit, she is also the designer of Melbourne-based label Bento, Lou from Peppermint Magazine, and the Fashionising team- Daniel and Tanya.

Sarah’s gorgeous dress is by Bettina Liano. Sam’s Ksubi glasses are to die for, her Ruby dress is from her own collection, so chic!

And no party would be a party without the stunning Amber Renae and her talented designer BFF Anthony Capon, who is designing for Etal. I believe Amber is wearing a creation by Anthony. He’s the only one wearing a skirt!

Necklace: Aris Geldis Paris; Jacket: Manning Cartell; Pants: Nicola Finnetti; shoes: Marc Jacobs; clutch: vintage Tippy

Thanks Miss Lyndel for a fabulous night and many thanks to my exercise bike.

By the way did you know that ‘milk’ is Klim spelt backwards?
