Fashion and Architecture have one thing in common: Design. When I was young I wanted to become an architect, as Art History and Graphic Design were my favourite subjects at school. But a dear friend who was studying it at the time talked me out of it. Then I wanted to be a geneticist, but my friends laughed at me and said that it’s because I wanted to play with sperm. I also wanted to be a teacher, but all of my school teachers talked me out of that too. Since then, I’ve learnt never to listen to advice from people in their own industries ever again. Although I never set foot in archi-school, the appreciation of design never left me. Maybe that’s why I choose visiting art galleries, old churches and museums over shopping on most occasions, especially in Europe. So when I saw the double storey sandstone grandeur of Mansion Hotel & Spa at Werribee Park, with its resounding arches and perfectly paired Ionic columns, I had no choice to don my most dramatic outfit and pretend to be an Asian Juliette…

I totally agree with you….don’t listen to anyone in their own industry. I try not to discourage those who come to me for advice about my career path. I just reach deep down to remember the passion I had when I first started and that’s what I give them.
