Last weekend a group of bloggers painted the Mornington Peninsula red. It was my first girls-weekend ever! Before you conclude that I’m a sad and secluded case, hear me out. My high school days were littered with sleep-overs. The most memorable ones were my own birthday dos where every year, I made my besties watch Ten Things I Hate About You, because admit it, we all need an annual refuel of eye-candy in the form of Heath Ledger, bless his soul, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt; and my friend Kam’s movie marathon nights (whereby I met hubbie, but I digress). So you see, I was blessed with an ultra sociable life as a teen.
But that all changed at uni. When you decide to study vet, you sign a contract that allows the faculty to deplete you of a social life, you barely have time to see your immediate family! When you consider that one had to live in Werribee, endure 40+ hour contact hours of uni and spend every other waking minute doing unpaid work experience and studying, there is barely time to take a bath, let alone partake in girls’ weekends. Plus, hubby and I got married when we started working, so weekends away became a special treat for just the two of us. However, despite everyone’s suspicions, I didn’t have or show any signs of separation anxiety on the bloggers’ weekend. Partly because I’m not the homesick-type and my companions were beyond fabulous. Everyone was so inspiring and fun: Leeyong was our stylish driver, Candice the sexy cocktail-maker, Iolanthe our sassy organizer, Marianne our stunning cook, Anastasia the scrumptious Tiramisu-er and I the designated photographer.
In true vintage-obsessed style, Candice, Leeyong and I hit the second hand shops all the way from Melbourne to Mornington. We each scored a plethora of heavenly garbs: Leeyong found a Russian hat and a 70s wisteria-print dress and Candice channelled 30s Hollywood glamour with her double-nightgown look. As I was busy pressing buttons on the camera, the candlestick became my monogrammed hat’s mannequin. We stayed at Aquabelle Apartments in Rye. Ok, I must admit, I only came close to crying when we had to leave, the apartment was so luxuriously spacious, I wish I lived on the beach and had a bathroom the size of a city apartment’s master bedroom!
You don’t really know someone unless you’ve lived with them. Over the weekend, I discovered so many more mesmerizing traits about my apartment-mates, Leeyong and Candice. Aside from their inspiring aesthetics and work ethics, both are so down-to-earth, and of course, when you have a gorgeous glamour girl making you her own concoctions of cocktails, it never hurts. I had to film Candice creating the Hummingbird – a very simple but potent recipe. Not for the faint hearted, but definitely for the sweet-teethed! Enjoy giving it a go lovelies, wishing you a very happy weekend! I’m off to another weekend away, stay in touch via Instagram (@cecyliadotcom)!

[…] to the Mornington Peninsula this weekend, I want to introduce you to The Alley, which a group of us fashion bloggers discovered 2 weekends ago. No this is not a sponsored post, I was simply so smitten with this vintage store/café that […]
[…] On the way down to Rye, Cecylia, LeeYong and myself hit up all kinds of vintage stores and came away with the most fabulous haul of treasures! One such treasure was an AMAZING late 1960′s pegnoir set (that’s nightgown with matching robe set) that I just had to bust out immediately. Luckily, I’d be chosen as the official cocktail maker for the evening, so I was very much in the mood. If you’d like to see a silly video of my cocktail making (after a long road trip I might add) have a look at this – My Humingbird Cocktail. […]
