Zara

Kiss of Kyla

by cecylia on June 29, 2011

In the previous post I introduced a new talented designer to you- Kyla Crozier. Do you still remember the inspiration behind her ‘Where the Heart Is‘ collection? If not, have a read here. I teamed up her blouse with my Zara red leather skinnies, which ripped at the knee upon my very first wear. Nevertheless I still love it and it goes with so many shirts!

I bought this furry muff (please don’t laugh!) at the Lost & Found Market on Smith St Collingwood, one of my favourite vintage haunts now! You can find anything and everything there. It is retro heaven! I was going to wear this muff to Mission 65 but in the end I didn’t as I would have had no place to put it with camera and drinks and all!

I have been wanting to sport the double cuff look, only problem is that all my bracelets are one-offs as they are vintage. But luckily I found these gold cuffs (in Russian?) in separate vintage stores!

And in case you’re wondering about my eyelashes. You’re probably thinking no asian has lashes that long, then  you’re right! They have been extended by the lovely Ardita, from . She is the only one I trust with my lashes now!

What I wore: Kyla Crozier silk blouse, Zara leather pants, vintage jewellery, bow-tie, muff and shoes

To find fur muffs and other gorgeous vintage gems- visit Lost & Found Market, 12 Smith St Collingwood

To support this talented emerging designer, visit Kyla Crozier’s website here.

For luscious lash extensions with a professional edge- make an appointment with Ardita, please contact her on 0451 951 464

Hoorah for Zara

by cecylia on June 22, 2011

Behold Melbourne! Zara is finally here! The cream of the crop chain store has finally opened its doors to Melbourne customers. I have a good feeling about Zara, it’s going to help to make our citizens look trendier and bring more style and colour to Melbournians. I’ve been a fan of Zara for years, and if it weren’t for the ridiculous long line and the fact that I prefer investment pieces over fast fashion, I’d consider shopping there myself should I craved some chain store action.

Here are some shots I took on the Opening Launch Night:

Very lucky to meet the owner of Grace boutique, right. So chic!

The fashion! The frenzy! Always sweet to see cute Taylor and Jess!

And Micah (Raww blog)! Check out the blue fur bolero on hairdresser Helen Ciccone of Hair by Ciccone! Helen’s team styled the hairdo for all the Zara staff! No wonder they looks so stylish!

The pretty weather lady- Livinia Nickson! I listen to Nine News whenever I am driving at 6pm!

Totally in love with Sarah’s lace top and moss skirt. I get to see Sarah (Style Melbourne) at nearly every event I go to, she hardly needs to take photos herself because I always snap her up :D

Fashionistas showing us how the pink lip is done! Loving the printed dress on the lady on the left and her bondage-style heels!

Hubby wasn’t able to come with me to this event so I had to play photographer. Jesse (J-Dawgworld)was able to get a sneak shot of Monica (Style Platform) and I just before she headed out to dinner.

So Zara fan, what do you think of our Melbourne store? Or should I ask what did you purchase?

What I wore: Vintage coat/dress, YSL pumps (not shown) and Pinkie the Snail ring

And on a side note, for those of you who would like to inherit a portion of my wardrobe, I will be hosting a stall at Take 2 Markets this Sunday at Hawthorn Town Hall on 360 Burwood Rd Hawthorn. I’ve never sold my pieces as my wardrobe is my most treasured possession and rarely part with my ‘collections’. But lately I’ve been supporting so many Australian designers I need to make room for their pieces. So if you’re free this Sunday any time from 10am to 3pm, pop down to Take 2 Markets at the beautiful Hawthorn Town Hall and pick out your favourites! See you there or lose your hair!

2nd Bloggerversary Party!

by cecylia on June 10, 2011

Every year when my blog turns one year older, I hold a Bloggerversary Party. You can see the frivolity of last year’s shindig here. In the past year I’ve met so many more bloggers, so it was an awesome excuse to have everyone over at the boutique for some girly fun! And the theme of this year’s party was ‘Anna Dello Russo-esque’.

Sarah of Style Melbourne, Bianca of her gorgeous Parisian style blog, her title (il etait une fois ‘once upon a time’) sounds absolutely divine; and pretty-as-a-button Jasmine, our Friend in Fashion. 3 super chicks!

You should remember Leeyong from this post, she has previously worked for Vogue Japan, designed her own label, is Eurasian (so gorgeous!) and still makes her own clothes and accessories! Can you believe that she made her fuchsia dress!

The lovely ladies at Adorn came to give us makeup demonstrations. I am makeup-illiterate so it was great to learn the tricks of the trade. Mineral makeup is better for our skin and Adorn mineral cosmetics are 100% natural, and are an Australian product. I’m a follower now!

Guests are treated to the best: Cupcakes from none other than the delicious Cupcake Central, and macaroons from Parisian bakery La Tropezienne. I ate one from every flavour because I have missed these treats so much!

My dear dear friend Jess, of What Would Karl Do, who is going to the yummiest mummy ever! Congratulations once again Jess! I love Jess’ style, always on trend but always with an element of surprise.

Recently I met Aimmey, a freelance make-up artist. Check out her gorgeous gallery here. Aimmey’s passion for make up could rival my passion for fashion. So we hit it off right away and cannot wait for future collaborations! Theodore felt right at home next to her faux-fur vest.

My dearest photographer friend, Karen, one half of Finessence Photography, is also expecting soon! Congratulations to you too! Finessence just launched their studio on 122 Mailing Rd Canterbury, their studio is definitely worth checking out. Karen bought the Mawi long chain necklace for Christmas. Her Repetto heels are souvenirs from Paris. You can purchase them (in red orange) from our boutique!

I have to tell you a little about my red pants, I’m sure you’re wondering where they are from. They are actually souvenirs from ZARA Sydney. I have mentioned in a previous post that I don’t go shopping anymore. But when I do, it’s either to support talented designers or for ‘research’. I have a love/hate relationship with Zara. I love their business strategies but I dislike the fact they copy designers. However since I am a supporter at heart, I brought these red leather skinnies back to Melbourne. I wore them for the first time at this blog party, bent down to pick up a cupcake wrapper, and my left knee ripped 2 stitches. Yeb, on my first wear. And I paid over $300 for them. Oh well, that’s ZARA!

A feast for our eyes- thank you Leeyong and Lisa (Stylus Muse Blog) for brightening our day!

After the Adorn work shop, we gathered together to clear our lungs for some Sing Star fun!

Thank you my dear reader for supporting my blog, for reading it, commenting on it and following it. When you do any of those last 2, it’s better than chocolate for me. So *hint hint*

Someone I ought to thank (but could never thank enough for) is my dear husband. He is my best friend, my mentor, my blog creator, my photographer (he has taken nearly all the photos for my blog, except this photo) and my constant pillar of support. Without Chian, I would be blog-less, boutique-less and bag-less :) Thank you so much hunny bunny!

Oh, and what do you think of these defined eyebrows? Thank you Adorn! Hehehehe Hope you’re having a fabulous weekend!

What I wore: Vintage shirt, jacket, belt, Zara pants, Marc Jacobs heels

Sunny Sunday in Sydney

by cecylia on May 9, 2011

Last week I flew up to Sydney for Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. And man, what a week. It was even more enjoyable than Paris Fashion Week in some respects. For example, I can actually speak English to every one, I could meet up with friends and cousins who knew where to take me to eat, without the need of tour guide books, the weather was glorious and the VIP bar rocked (more on that on a later post methinks) and I met SO MANY amazing bloggers and caught up with so many of my favourite Aussie designers. But before I spill all the beans, I will take you on a chronological guide. I promise you, my account of fashion week will not be like anything you’ve seen or heard from other great blogs or magazines. So, let’s rewind, to the day before fashion week kicked off…

A little Melbourne chick feeling de ja vu on Pitt Street, ‘Am I on Bourke St? Where’s the tram?’

She was super excited to take her Chloe jacket for a spin in Sydney. Who knew that the enormous Pauric Sweeney bag also doubles as a giant clutch!

It’s 10 am and there’s already a crowd outside ZARA? I will suppress all urge to visit that store!’ She says defiantly.

I look so tired after a 7 am flight, where’s good coffee around here?’ She asks, also grimacing at the fact that her giant pimple ‘Oscar’ also decided to tag along to Sydney.

She found a cupcake store and ordered the one with 3 heads.

The rest of the day became a delirious blur of seeing amazing things at the Rocks Market and eating lots of asian food for this girl. She fell desperately in love with hand-knitted children’s hats. She was the only adult trying on all the animal hats and giggling like there was no audience. ‘I will make it fit!’ She vowed. The sugar and caffeine was in full swing. She really wanted the grey one in the right hand corner but only this olive one fitted her head.  So Rowena, founder of Nellie and Norm, obligingly helped Mr Kangaroo to fit onto her head. Rowena named her children’s label after her milliner grandma Nellie, as Nellie used to create gorgeous and bright head pieces.

hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe hehehehehehehehehehe

After cupcake breakfast, came lunch with the cousins at Chat Thai. It was Epic. This little piggy had to loosen her belt.

After Thai lunch, was Taiwanese after noon tea – taro balls, beans on sugared ice at Meet Fresh. Because her taste buds being a little burnt from the previous chilli lunch, this Asian dessert was refreshingly delicious. After this, it was hubby’s birthday cake. A tiramisu from 85 Degrees rendered everyone paralyzed from severe post-prandial bulge.

But it seemed that everyone’s stomach is rather elastic. Some still had an appetite for dinner. More chilli food.

This girl is often mistaken for a child because of her actions. Imitation is the best form of flattery, right?

After what seemed to be 5 meals, she found a little corner of her stomach to have another dinner with some vet friends at Mamak. And that was how she started Rosemount Fashion Week- with lots of food.

But how will she fit into her clothes tomorrow?!!!!

What she wore

Chloe jacket/vintage blouse/Baron Y leather heart necklace/Wrangler jeans/Pauric Sweeney bag/Repetto BB flats

What she ate

Wayyy too much
