How to Create a Peplum

by cecylia on March 29, 2012

I’m sure you’ve all seen glimpses of the feminine waist ornament making a statement on the runways and the red carpets, (think Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli, Liv Tyler in the sheer spotty Stella McCartney). If you haven’t, check it out here. The peplum can lend an elegant hand to any top and any dress to seduce and to amuse (as demonstrated in my case).

It defines the waist and refines the hips. No wonder nearly every designer from Alexander McQueen to Thakoon can’t get enough of it! Vera Wang has even made the perfect peplum belt! But the simpest way to create a peplum? With a belt! Just grab that ill fitting top that you can’t bring yorself to throw out, like this 80s leather number, and add a thin belt. Voila! It’s a cinch!

I’m sorry that it’s been a while since Theodore has graced the cover of Cecylia.com. Well this special appearance by Theodore has extra meaning this time….

A few days ago I was jogging with the Theodore and Roxy (my parents’ very overweight Jack Russell), off lead, at the local oval. I kept my eyes on them the whole time, ’til my neck couldn’t bend any longer, but suddenly our darling chihuahua disappeared!

I could not find him ANYWHERE despite how much I yelled his name and how far my legs could carry me. At my darkest hour, I could only pray and ask that the Creator of the universe would have mercy on me. ‘Please Lord, let him be ok.’ During the 2 hour chase, I was brought to my knees and tears. The situation reminded me of how much God adores every one of us, and He is out there searching for you and I, as well. So after what felt like an eternity, thankfully, my prayers were heard and the phone rang. A lovely lady thought Theodore was lost and took him home, but later discovered that his collar had his name tag and our phone numbers on it. Thank God.

So a few things:

1. Never take your eyes off your pets when they are off leash

2. Make sure that they are microchipped and they wear a collar tag with your current contact details

3. If you ever find a dog next to an oval, it probably belongs to the person jogging inside.

If it can happen to a vet, it can happen to anyone.
