Vogue

Fluorescence

by cecylia on May 25, 2011

The giant UV lights centre stage of the Magdalena Velevska’s show at RAFW evoked curiosity and delight in most attendees. I loved the crystal formation it took and reminisced about a childhood game of ‘pick-up sticks’. Turns out, the clothes were just as mind-blowingly beautiful.

I’m a sucker for pink and orange, and pleats. So this collection is right up there in my dream list. I loved the architectural lines and accordion pleats. Well done Magdalena Velevska. You know her name is phonetic so it’s actually really easy to spell :) Please click here to see her full collection.

In the last post, I said that I had something pretty cool to show you – well here it is. As I was uploading a photo of her centre piece onto Facebook, I got stopped in my tracks by some bloggers because my Roksanda Ilincic jacket decided to glow along with the UV lights.

Looks like great designers all have pink on their minds. If I got $1 for every compliment I received on the Roksanda jacket, I won’t need to work any more.

On a complete contrast is our Vogue Editor, Kristie Clements, in an all-noir ensemble. Love her jade earrings though!

I love the Style Stalker ladies, Rachel and Sue-Ann. 2 hotties and very smart business women. Their label is only 2 years old and already stocked over 250 stores globally. And they look like spring chickens! I’m besotted with Sue-Ann’s Style Stalker dress!

After Magdalena’s show, I caught up with talented emerging Aussie designer Anne Tu, of The Eleventh Hour, whom I blogged about here. We are the same age! I was under the impression that her label has been blossoming for a while now, but when she contacted me last year, that was her very first collection! I was amazed by her tailoring, I guess that’s the talent you get when you train under Preen. Anne is very driven and focused, I cannot wait to see her succeed.

Next up- Dhini’s show! Boy have I been waiting to see this collection!

My outfit: Roksanda Ilincic silk gazaar jacket (available via pre-order)/Spijkers en Spijkers silk top and wool shorts/vintage belt/Pauric Sweeney bag/Viktor &Rolf scarf bracelet/YSL shows. Necklace made by me

Cuddle your Cashmere

by cecylia on May 14, 2011

For some reason, Melbourne decided to skip summer and autumn this year and go from spring straight into winter. So before we could pull out our summer wardrobes, we have all been snuggling up in woollies and coats. One of the most luxurious pieces we can indulge in during winter (and the only reason why we like winter, for that mater) is wearing cashmere. Cashmere is 7 times warmer than lambswool. The lightweight fabric is also non-irritant and doesn’t cause itch like lambs wool. Hence we can still look stylish without the bulkiness of wearing so many layers.  Here are the styles that we stock, as seen in Vogue.

Charcoal Long Cardigan with Pockets

Ruffle Dress in Black

Round Hem Sweater in Grey

Luxurious Wrap with Rabbit fur trim

We spoke to cashmere designer Rebecca McGeoch about how to best care for our cashmere.

“Generally Speaking we will recommend that you have your cashmere dry-cleaned, however, 9 times out of 10 we break this rule ourselves and wash our cashmere at home. If you’re like us then all you need to know are a few simple rules about washing at home:

1. Always turn your garments inside out before washing.
2. Use a specialised wool wash for delicate garments.
3. Wash in cool water either by hand or on the gentle wool cycle of your
washing machine.
4. Never tumble Dry.
5. Lay garments flat in the shade to dry (hanging garments while wet will cause them to misshape)
6. Cool iron if necessary, using a cloth in between garment and iron.

Oversized Stripe Sweater with Pockets

One thing that you do need to be aware of also is that with such fine yarns in cashmere, pilling will almost definitely occur. These can be removed carefully with fine nail scissors or combed out using a cashmere comb.”

There is an amazing competition on right now where you can win a cashmere wardrobe valued at $500! Click here for more information.

Hoodie Dress in Charcoal

Black cape with silver harware

Ultra-fine sweater with peep-hole (reversible)

Vogue for Paspaley

by cecylia on December 9, 2010

I’ve been a Vogue reader since I could read English, since I was 10 years old (before that I lived in Shanghai). And it has been my dream to one day work for Vogue, preferably as the Fashion Editor but I would be equally happy to fold clothes in their office.

Recently my beautiful friend Sam from Bento invited me along to the Paspaley Pearl Appreciation Night on Collins St. I have always loved pearls – I got strands and pendants for my birthdays, engagement and wedding. But the real treat of the evening was the opportunity to meet the guest of honour, none other than the glamorous Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Australia, Kristie Clements.

Thank God for the Anna Wintour encounter, that experience (documented here) has somehow hardened my skin and eased my nerves so I didn’t go all googly before the High Priestess of Fashion in DownUnder.

Ilona, Fashion Assistant and Kristie,  Editor-in-Chief. A force to be reckoned with. I loved their style. Ilona does the slouchy and deconstructed look with aplomb. She’s wearing Prada pumps and the Paspaley pearl cross on her neck, a piece which everyone admired. Kristie is wearing an enviously big strand of Paspaleys…

The stylish duo went on to tell us about how to wear pearls in a unique way, in a youthful and a more ‘day’ way.

I jumped at the opportunity to have a photo taken with the stylish duo.

Sam wearing her Bento shirt (AW11 collection) in Pearl as well as her skirt (styled with a petticoat), Alldressedup necklace with gems, MAWI ring and Chanel bag.

I’m in a Sophia Kokosalaki dress with my own pearls and Aris Geldis necklace, Repetto booties and vintage ostrich clutch.

Don’t you love her Ksubi glasses? I wish I could pull off those funky glasses! We are very proud to stock Bento next year, can’t wait for the pieces to arrive.

The pearl styling session was so informative and fun. I have already started to incorporate pearls into more day looks! Tell me, how do you wear your pearls?
