On your Marc

by cecylia on January 18, 2012

Being a visual person, I like to keep my shoes out of their boxes and display them as wearable art. I store my footwear collection on white bookshelves for clarity reasons. But due to restricted space and a horrible hoarding habbit, some of my treasured footwear have had to reside in their original cartons, hence I have neglected many fine beauties as of late, like these Marc Jacobs butterfly laceups. I haven’t worn them for over a year! Feel like a bad mother… Actually I’ve never worn this vintage fringe dress or the tweed coat before either come to think of it…it’s simply not possible to dress up as a vet.

The purse was a gift from my grandma- it is so intricately made, like most vintage pieces from decades ago. There are multiple pockets inside including a mirror and a coin purse, all joined together! They don’t make things like they used to…My grandma is currently holidaying in Shanghai at the moment, wish I could join her :)

So how do you store your footwear?

Don’t you just love street art? The bold colours, lines and topography are both visually awakening and mentally stimulating. Why have coffee when you can just wake up to graffiti? Applauses to this street artist. All great art and design is proof of a greater designer. We are so blessed to live in this intricately created world. Happy Hump Day lovelies!

Where in Melbourne

by cecylia on December 17, 2010

A little while back I went vintage shopping with my Mom and we came across this little pea-cardigan (cross between a peacoat, because it’s double-breasted, and a cardigan, because it’s knitted) with cute gold buttons. I fell in love with it immediately. Thanks to its vibrant colours, this vintage coat has become my new best friend. It adds a punch to an otherwise boring outfit and it serves as a great shoulder cover.

I attended a function hosted by Where Magazine – a great publication that sits on the bed side tables of all the high end hotels of Melbourne from the Hilton to the Hyatt. It informs our interstate and international tourist guests of all the cool places to visit in town. Good on Where! They are always up to date with the latest gigs, shows and exhibitions in town. They also feature editorials on hip shopping spots in Melbourne! They are every tourist’s best tour guide!

The event was held at Red Emperor on Southbank, the most amazing Chinese restaurant been too! I stood all night next to all the canapes and stuffed myself with pecking duck, deep-fried sesame toast, dumplings and much much more. Thank God my Gail Sorronda dress is stretchy.

I met a lovely shoe boutique owner (Dimario) who sported an amazing pair of Armani perspex and leather sandals. All her shoes, accessories and handbags are Italian brands and she sources them directly from the designers themselves (Valentino, Armani and many more) and she attends runway shows too. You can imagine the excitement we got ourselves into as we started chatting, as we both drool over all the yummy fashion on the runways.

Ah I’ll be sure to send our customers who need unique Italian shoes to her boutique! Can’t wait to visit myself!

Wearing vintage pea-cardigan, Gail Sorronda dress, MAWI necklace, Bally bag and Repetto Mila suede peeptoe pumps

I thought I’ll leave you with 2 beautiful pictures I came across recently. Christmas is fast approaching and I’m sure you are all writing your wish lists. To be honest, all I want for Christmas is to be able to tidy up my house and beat my wardrobes into submission, so that they are slaves for me and not the other way around. Hope you all have a beautiful weekend!

See you next week darls!

Vogue for Paspaley

by cecylia on December 9, 2010

I’ve been a Vogue reader since I could read English, since I was 10 years old (before that I lived in Shanghai). And it has been my dream to one day work for Vogue, preferably as the Fashion Editor but I would be equally happy to fold clothes in their office.

Recently my beautiful friend Sam from Bento invited me along to the Paspaley Pearl Appreciation Night on Collins St. I have always loved pearls – I got strands and pendants for my birthdays, engagement and wedding. But the real treat of the evening was the opportunity to meet the guest of honour, none other than the glamorous Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Australia, Kristie Clements.

Thank God for the Anna Wintour encounter, that experience (documented here) has somehow hardened my skin and eased my nerves so I didn’t go all googly before the High Priestess of Fashion in DownUnder.

Ilona, Fashion Assistant and Kristie,  Editor-in-Chief. A force to be reckoned with. I loved their style. Ilona does the slouchy and deconstructed look with aplomb. She’s wearing Prada pumps and the Paspaley pearl cross on her neck, a piece which everyone admired. Kristie is wearing an enviously big strand of Paspaleys…

The stylish duo went on to tell us about how to wear pearls in a unique way, in a youthful and a more ‘day’ way.

I jumped at the opportunity to have a photo taken with the stylish duo.

Sam wearing her Bento shirt (AW11 collection) in Pearl as well as her skirt (styled with a petticoat), Alldressedup necklace with gems, MAWI ring and Chanel bag.

I’m in a Sophia Kokosalaki dress with my own pearls and Aris Geldis necklace, Repetto booties and vintage ostrich clutch.

Don’t you love her Ksubi glasses? I wish I could pull off those funky glasses! We are very proud to stock Bento next year, can’t wait for the pieces to arrive.

The pearl styling session was so informative and fun. I have already started to incorporate pearls into more day looks! Tell me, how do you wear your pearls?

J’adore Antonia et Charlotte

by cecylia on November 4, 2010

As I often tell people, one of my fafourite and most rewarding part of my hectic life is to be able to wear pieces designed by amazing creative minds.  That is what captured my heart about Antonia Goy’s designs last time I met her at the showroom in The Ritz and yet again this time at Paris Fashion Week. I had been waiting for an opportunity to wear this dress made by her, and what better opportunity to wear it than an appointment with her?

Antonia’s AW10/11 collection was inspired by the lizards and the foldings of the earth and her SS11 collection captures the sculptural qualities of smoke. Ah I can’t tell you much but will let you know when her garments arrive. They certainly captured my heart! Can’t wait!!

At the Ritz, in my Antonia Goy silk Georgette dress, Manning Cartell velvet-trimmed blazer, vintage Prada belt and Marc Jacobs booties. And the next designer I’m going to introduce you to is none other than the stunning English-Brazilian It-girl-turned-shoe-designer: Charlotte Olympia Dellal. Her designs sky-rocketed to phenomenal status thanks to SJP who wore them religiously in Sex In the City.

Charlotte’s new collection is inspired by the colours of Rio. These snakeskin fruity pumps are too adorable for words! You would have seen my previous post on Charlotte here. It is almost impossible to think of a female celebrity who hasn’t worn her heels, a little like Sophia Kokosalaki (but dresses instead)…

Another achingly chic lady with a fablous accent and an envious shoe collection. Her shoes are so well made, by Italian hands of course. I cannot wait to stock her!

You know the best way to feel fat? Stand next to a model (especially if they’re in Louboutins). Again, in my favourite colour of the season- coral!

Ah, Paris, you inspire me to dress up. You inspire me to appreciate art, style and design. J’adore Paris!
