Dhini’s Birth

by cecylia on May 27, 2011

The show that made my night on the 3rd day of RAFW was my dear friend Dhini’s. I was so proud of her, the collection was a breath of fresh air. It was titled ‘Birth’ as it symbolized a new chapter of Dhini’s life and creative energy. Lady Melbourne and I were stoked to run into each other. She just came up for RAFW. Tis great to see more bloggers from Melbourne on Sydney’s turf!

Seeing Oliver and Julien always brought a smile to my face. I always get wadrobe envy when I see him, I want those leggings! How much fun it would have been if Theodore had been there, our darling pooches would wave to each other across the catwalk!

Below are 3 of my favourite looks from Dhini – not from a buyer’s perspective, but from my own. There were many other looks I loved, like the mint sheer silk playsuit, but my camera didn’t get good enough shots of it. To see better pictures of Dhini’s entire collection, please click here.

Birds chipred, models glided across the runway, butterflies were everywhere, including in my tummy. I was in awe of this mezmerising collection. I have never seen the front row pull out their iphones so fast when the First Face appeared- none other than a Dhini devotee, Eleanor Bailieu, our premier’s 17 years old daughter.

Eleanor both opened and closed the show for Dhini and walked exclusively for her show. Eleanor is in year 12 and wants to travel after high school. Guess who will be designing her formal dress?

This is the yummiest mummy in the crowd, Alice, Dhini’s sales agent. Alice is also Marnie Skilling’s business partner and also represents Karla Spetic. Alice’s style always inspires me. Here she is wearing a Miu Miu jumper dress with Dhini leggins. Yesterday she also wore a  pastel blue jumper dress with Gail Sorronda leggings. No I’m kicking myself not getting a photo of her!

Richard Branson sure knows how to make an entrance, to Sydney. We decided to bask in his glory as Dhini’s show was totally fireworks-worthy also. I am sure that it wasno coincidence that the fireworks occured simultaneously as we cheered with our champagne flutes.

Dhini I am so proud of you. By the end of the show I had the biggest grin on my face and tears in my eyes. We all go through metamorphosis in life and you’ve morphed into a beautiful butterfly. I cannot wait to see the transformation your garments bring to everyone who slips into Dhini pieces. Congratulations my dear.

Parade in the Gallery

by cecylia on May 23, 2011

Day 3 of Rosemount fashion week rocked. I attended 4 spectacular shows including Lisa Ho, Talulah, Magalena Velevska, and Dhini, which were all pretty amazing, and also I went to see Yeojin Bae’s collection (before her actual show!). Can I just say that lately I’ve been getting so many sweet comments about how lucky I am to go to all the shows/showings, but I get the feeling that a lot of people don’t realise why I attend the shows. I went to Rosemount as a buyer for our boutique, not as a socialite! :)

Lisa Ho’s show was hands-down the most impeccably executed show I attended during RAFW. Set in the glorious space of the Gallery of NSW, front-rowers included movie stars, television celebrities and many many fashion editors. I actually didn’t have a seat ticket, but just before the show started I was asked to sit, maybe because my jacket was too bright, next to Simon Lock! I didn’t realise who he was until after the show. Simon Lock is the FOUNDER of fashion week! And there I was, commenting on how much I loved his lizard skin blue shoes, without an inkling…

These are my top 3 looks, it took me forever to choose because everything Lisa Ho designs is so chic and wearable.

I’m suddenly over the mis-matched phase and have become addicted to matching, maybe because I’m maturing… totally digging the brights together.

My jaw fell on the ground when I saw these colours together – ingenius! Who knew that mint and mustard would be so irresistible! This ensemble is wearable art.

Tantalising tangerine on a figure like hers = goddess status

To see Lisa Ho’s runway in full, please click here to watch the video.

Thank you Gallery of NSW for allowing (ie not forbidding) us to take photos inside. My pink Roksanda Ilincic jacket should look familar to you, as seen in this post.

I’ve teamed it up Spijkers en Spijkers Big Star top and ski shorts. All are available to be purchased from our boutique.

When I got back to the OPT, I was delighted to run into darling Margaret (of Shine by Three) again. So young, yet so hip.

After Lisa Ho, I enjoyed the candle light setting of Talulah. I have something amazing to show you in the next post. Stayed tuned!

What I wore:

Roksanda Ilincic silk gazaar jacket (available via pre-order)/Spijkers en Spijkers silk top and wool shorts/vintage belt/Pauric Sweeney bag/Viktor &Rolf scarf bracelet/YSL shows. Necklace made by me

**Oh and to my besties who read my blog- sorry about the scars on my legs, but I’m low maintenance, I don’t do foundation, except on Oscar the pimple**

Karla Spectacular

by cecylia on May 16, 2011

The Karla Spetic show, was hands down one of my favourite shows at RAFW. I have been a huge fan of the talented Croatian-born designer for years, as evident from my blog. Our boutique is her largest stockist in Melbourne, and I must admit, I absolutely adore her clothes. They have a minimalist look that produces maximum impact. Karla’s garments are made in Australia from the finest silks made by the best tailors. Bold, clean and elegant, my favourite combination. Karla’s new SS11/12 collection as shown below, was styled by the amazing fashion editor of InStyle magazine, Tavlin Moline. Here are 4 of my favourite looks, you will definitely see me in these outfits later in the year.

This First Look blew me away. I was fixated on the colours, the patterns and the length! My customers are going to love this outfit!

Pink and tangerine is a marriage in style heaven. The sharp tailored look oozes sophistication and control. Buttons done-up is so sexy right now.

I don’t think I can pull off the lime shirt but these pants are another story. I will be wearing green pants this spring, with lots of white, crisp shirts and sleeveless blazers.

And somewhere in my heart, when I saw this tangerine jumpsuit, I liked toying with the thought that Karla designed this jumpsuit with me in mind. Orange is my favourite colour right now and I’ve always been an advocate for jumpsuits. This jumpsuit is going to be on my must-have list from Karla. To see the full collection, check it out on Vogue here.

How many of the front-rowers can you recognise? I sat opposite Susie Bubble, Jessica Gomez (Ambassador of RAFW) and Napoleon Perdis.

Tavlin’s impeccable styling of Karla’s incredible collection took my breath away. Afterwards I congratulated Karla on her stellar show. She was kind enough to pose for a photo with me. The next day I bumped into Tavlin, in a Karla Spetic Centre-print blazer. I was a little starry-eyed as I am a big fan of this talented stylist. The ultra-beautiful thing is that both ladies hold each other in such high respect. When I spoke to Karla, she said that Tavlin was so amazing and her styling really helped her collection to shine. And when I spoke to Tavlin, she said that it was such a delight and a joy to work with such a gifted fashion designer as Karla. Awww!

You can imagine my pleasant surprise when Tavlin said to me ‘You’re a boutique owner and a blogger? Karla has told me about you!’

Only the good stuff, I hope.

Front-Rowers of Day One

by cecylia on May 13, 2011

You may recall a babe taking photos of me in my previous post? Well here is Jessie, director of We The People blog- love her combination of leather and fur. Jessie is also featured in this week’s Famous magazine. Each of her outfits inspired me.

And the achingly hip Sam, designer of the hottest eco-friendly Melbourne-based label Bento, who was chased by photographers to get photos of her throughout the week.

Yvan Rodic, the Face Hunter, one of my favourite blogs, takes photos of chic citizens. But I got a photo of him!

And the amazing Frock Writer, Patty Huntington, whose resume is too extensive for me to quote inaccurately. This seasoned fashion journalist is wearing a vintage coat/dress she scored from Shag and her pink pumps are Dolce & Gabbana. Patty and my husband share the same birthday. She was seen dancing between backstage and front-row.

Now here is another journalist lady I must introduce to you. Caroline Attwood, Associate Editor of WGSN. This gorgeous Londoner and I hit it off on first sight. Maybe because the London accent is the only one I can semi-mimick. We met at a show on the first day, then sat next to each other front-row in Gail Sorronda’s show. Thank you Gail! Then for the rest of fashion week, we kept bumping into each other, literally we somehow end up sitting next to each other at every second show! Coincidence?

You know how I super missed my canine son Theodore whilst we were in Sydney? Next time we are so checking into a pet-friendly hotel, although we are pretty attached to Park8 now, maybe the Darlinghurst branch, they love pooches. We met Oliver, the pink Pomeranian whose owner (right), Julien, had a very enviable wardrobe, and Keira, centre, is Oliver’s hair stylist. Oliver was the best behaved Pomeranian I’ve ever met, such a delight to have around. He was better behaved than some kids that came to the shows. Oliver, Julien and Keira was often spotted in the front-row. I think Theodore would have loved Oliver.
