Premiere of Surviving Georgia

by cecylia on October 9, 2011

As mentioned in this post, I had the privilege of attending the Premiere of Surviving Georgia last week. I worked as a vet in the morning, went home for a nap, pulled out my favourite Kathryn Beker dress, got ready in 5 minutes and had to beat the rush-hour traffic. Unfortunately the traffic jam triumphed, I missed out on seeing Rose Byrne….*sobs* BUT I was equally excited to see Pia Miranda, and all of my lovely friends!

The Co-Director and Producer, Kate Whitbread (in Lisa Baron), Actress Pia Miranda (in Lee Matthews), Co-Director and Writer, Sandra Sciberras (also in Lisa Barron), and Jane Hayes, in Alexander Mcqueen, (I adore her Phillip Lim neoprene clutch!) who styled these gorgeous ladies. Hands together to Jane for an incredible styling job! All of these ladies’ jewels are from the Parisian Street Society.

Lisa, looking ravishing in her red silk Carla Zampatti dress, sure lives up to her title as the Stylus Muse!

Iolanthe (Ruby Slipper Consultants) in DVF, Jane (Jane Hayes Consulting), Lisa (Stylus Muse), Kyra (Pybus PR), in Madam Virtue, and I. Such a colourful line-up!

What a treat it was to have the Producers of the film, Kate Whitbread and Spencer McLaren (also a main actor in the movie) introduce the film, set in the lovely town of Warburton.

Q & A session with a stellar cast: Toby Wallace, Pia Miranda, Andrew Martin, Spencer McLaren and directors Kate Whitbread and Sandra Sciberras. Many other actors including Holly Valance, could not make it to the Premiere as they are currently working overseas. Surving Georgia moved me to the edge of the seat in anticipation, moved me to tears (and also tears of joy) and moved the crowd to laughter. Definitely to be watched, and prepared to be moved!

Outift:  vintage Saba jacket, Kathryn Beker silk/feather dress, vintage earrings, brooch, clutch, YSL ringGhost & Lola bracelet, Chloe stillettos (From Net-a-Porter)

What do you think of this amazing Kathryn Beker dress? I tried to balance out the ultra-feminine frock with a manly tux jacket and some hardcore heels. I admit that they are not the easiest heels to walk in, but I’m always up for a challenge! My outfits are not complete without colour so I added some orange and pink accessories. So in love with this Ghost & Lola bracelet, it is a remade vintage piece, very eco-conscious and chic! Getting pieces from them is still fine for ‘Buy Nothing New October’ :)

Special thanks to Kyra and Louise for the kind invitation, what an honour it was to experience this beautiful film. Head to see Surviving Georgia, in all great cinemas from October 13th.

You Give Me Wings

by cecylia on December 16, 2010

The latest collection from Damselfly has flown in directly from the designer herself Christianna Heidemann. The new pieces are designed for the previously neglected parts of the body- the shoulders and the back. Bejewelled and featured capelets, vests and harnesses can transform a plain dress or a casual T-shirt and jeans ensemble to something the coolest kids from the black would wear.  They make the perfect gifts this Christmas as they go with absolutely everything, they are chic-economic (they provide glamour without the need to splurge on a sparkly dress which may cause you tears when one bead/sequin start to fall) and they are so comfortable to wear. To get more style tips from the lady herself, click here.

The chain harness is so clever there are 5 ways to wear it…we’ll share on another post =)

From left to right

L: Sophia Kokosalaki silk tiered dress (can also be worn as a skirt), Damselfly feather capelet, bejewelled neck piece

M: Karla Spetic Windmill print dress, Damselfly chain capelet (can also be worn as a necklace)

R: Gail Sorronda silk stretch body suit, Amy Kaehne silk shorts, Damselfly pink Agate and bird necklace

Inspired by the Ancients

by cecylia on October 24, 2010

We, the team at Cecylia, are a creative bunch, or so we think so. We are not artists but at least we appreciate art. And so we tweaked our jewellery display to bring you some visual delight. We went back in time…all the way back to ancient Roman or Greek times, and found inspirations from Corinthian columns, female nudes and even Athena, the goddess of wisdom. And a cute cat.

Jewellery labels we stock (from highest to lowest price): MAWI (London), Aris Geldis (Paris), Alldressedup (Singapore), Damselfly (Melbourne)

Most pieces are one-offs, so come and see them yourself!

Zoological Studies

by cecylia on March 3, 2010

One of my earliest memories was when I went to the Melbourne Zoo as a youngling and was in awe of all the great animals there.  2 decades later, the zoo still excites me. I went to the Twilight  Zoo last weekend with friends and we were lucky enough to feed some animals! There was an ACDC tribute band which was just playing noise, so we  entertainedourselves with the lions and the giraffes instead. I even got to handle a snake! That was the highlight of the night.

I wore a Country Road silk camisole and wool cardigan. A vintage necklace, belt, skirt and sandals. I regretably washed my lovely skirt in the washing machine and the pleats have gone hey-wired. I feel quite ashamed, but at least the print is still as intriguing as ever. See the close up o fhte prints below.

A pretty peacock! Many enquired about the name ‘peacock’ and according to the great Internet, the name Peacock has a history dating back as far back as the Anglo-Saxon tribes of Britain. It was a name associated with someone who was concerned with their looks or manners. Male peacocks may be beautiful, but they can be vicious if they’re threatened.

Outside the new aquarium exhibition. It is still under construction.

A close-up of my skirt, every face is different.

My first time with a friendly non-venomous snake. She was gorgeous and very muscley.

Another face

How did a turtle outrun my flash?

“So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.:” -Genesis 1:21

Thank God for creating animals, otherwise this earth would be very boring.
