Girl Crush

by cecylia on June 19, 2010

I had a secret girl crush on Aussie model Catherine McNeil for years. I remember saying ‘she’s going to be huge’ and boy, was I right! She has done gazillions of catwalks, graced countless covers of Australian and international fashion magazines, starred in a myriad of campaigns and shot numerous editorials.  Her face and her figure surpasses many in the modelling industry. Did I mention that she is a favourite of legendary photographer Mario Testino?

A darling on the runways, Catherine McNeil is slowly becoming a household name,  challenging model princesses Abbey Lee Kershaw and Gemma Ward (. I think she is the most beautiful Australian model, she is flawless. I’m sure when you see her feline looks and Amazonian legs, and that figure…you will see why I think that.

In V Magazine…

She is the face of ‘Essence’, the new fragrance by Narciso Rodriguez.

Modelling Dior Fine Jewellery:

The face of a Donna Karan campaign:

And probably the most famous campaign she has done would be for Hugo Boss:

Young mug shots of the model. Natural stunner.

Who is your favourite model?  Is it Sasha, Natasha, Abbey or another beauty? Share share share!

Yasmin- The Girl from Oz

by cecylia on December 24, 2009

I’ve been a Yasmin Sewell fangirl for almost a decade. I adore her simple and sleek style. Her clothes are always interesting but never flashy. . She’s been the buyer at high end store Browns  in London, had her own store, Yasmin Cho, and photos of her are all over The Sartorialist and Garance Dore. Sewell is a fashion consultant to clients like Liberty of London. Seh imgle-handly revamped the store to a designer destination.

Yasmin is the  officially the best dressed girl from Australia. She wears Balmain shoulders and high wasted tweed pants with aplomb. I think she looks a little like Jennifer Connolly in this picture.

She is well known for her simple, androgynous and elegant style. But here she shows how beautiful she is in a dress too. I love the black wrought iron bars next to her- they symbolize her strength and sleekness. Her rocking booties (Alexander Wang perhaps?) give away her inner tomboy.yasmin sewell

Sewell describes her style as ‘no-fuss’ . I say tres chic! Having beautiul hair helps too.

Yasmin chic

Looking like an angel in white. I love the columns behind her again echoing her simplistic and serene style. This symmetrical dress has fabulous cut. Great hair, great smile.

Even her friend is effortlessly chic. I am sure that if any of us hanged around Sewell, her influence would rub off very easily.  Sewell always looks amazing in man-style pants. I love her top. Her friend’s wedges are delightful too, well accessorized.

Her outfits are always so interesting, here is a girl who pays attention to detail. I love this ensemble- especially her red clutch and those black suede heels. This is ultimate street chic!

On the phone again, explaining what’s in and out of fashion to a client perhaps? Sewell has said that she is an avid fan of Tshirts and boy friend jeans. Here she shows off her street smart look. Great olive leather jacket! She sure likes those black suede heels.

She looks good even in white tights and an umbrella. I love the blue blazer, the YSL dress and the Bally bag. Dishing out fashion advice on the street, maybe?

Yasmin Sewell rarely wears jewellery. With her wardrobe picks, she rarely needs to. I am sure that we can all take a leaf out of her page – don’t be afraid to steal pieces from your man!

Vicki’s Wedding

by cecylia on November 28, 2009

1 Corinthians 13

Reading 1 Corinthians 13

On November 7th, I attended a good friend’s wedding. Vicki and I grew up together and known each other since we were teenagers. She is a statuesque beauty and of course, looked absolutely stunning on her wedding day. I was invited to read the scriptures on at her wedding ceremony. ‘Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self-seeking…’ in Chinese. Thank God I did not fall flat on my face as I walked up to the podium and thankfully did not forget my limited Mandarin.

Stunning Bride

Stunning Bride

Vicki’s dress was tailor-made for her. It was actually made from 2 dresses. She chose the bodice from one gown and the other half from another and the clever seamstresses joined them together. This photo doesn’t really do her justice. She has the best figure an Asian girl could dream of and I am not kidding.

Not just pretty faces

Our good friends (also sisters) were the bridesmaids, dressed in Vicki’s favourite colour. They sang a lovely song for the bride and groom.

I love birds!
I love birds!

Her reception was at the Manningham art gallery. I could not resist having photos with the fruit of some local talent. You are probably wondering what I am wearing- beige one-shoudler Country Road dress. Vintage gold leaf and gold multi-strand beaded necklaces, vintage Brazilian 3 tone sandals in patent leather, vintage red velvet clutch and Pinkie!

I must tell you a little testimony about Pinkie. In the early hours of the next morning, I got home and realized that Pinkie was not on my finger nor in my clutch (where she rested whilst I danced my heels off). I was devastated to lose my beloved cocktail snail ring! My first reaction was to ask God for mercy- to help me overcome my sadness over the loss of a little ring. To my surprise, God not only filled my heart with joy so I could sleep soundly that night, He restored Pinkie to me the next day! One of Vicki’s groomsmen found Pinkie near our table and gave it to her. I was overjoyed for the return of my ‘prodigal’ ring. Praise God!

I love these porcelain statues and the cute dog paintings. The little porcelain trinkets are actually just placed in the silver bowls, they are not stuck together. What a feast for our eyes!

This young girl reminds me of the eponymous Skipping Girl (vinegar company). Look! She’s wearing Roman sandals!

Kimmy and I

Kimmy and I

I had to post this photo of Kimmy and I. I adore her white chiffon tunic dress. Simple and elegant.

Mommy and I

Mommy and I

And here is the lady who started my affair with fashion and all things arty and nice- my Mom. She cultivated my love of art from a tender age. Mom and I used to do my art assignments together in primary school.  She used to ride the bicycle with me sitting on the back to school every day ( since I can’t ride a bike). Too bad I never inherited my mom’s beauty genes (she was ravishing when she was young), but I thank God that I have such an awesome Mom.

Vicki fed us lobsters along with a 6 course seafood banquet. She arrived at her wedding in a black stretch Hummer and left in a white one. It sure was a wedding to be remembered. Many wishes of joy, love and peace to the newly weds. ‘Love never fails’
