If I got a dollar every time someone made a compliment about this dress, it would be free after 20 people. Yes, I found this vintage number at an op-shop exactly a month before my cousin’s wedding. Being well into in my third trimester, I wasn’t prepared to part a small fortune in exchange for a dress that I wouldn’t wear again.
I can still remember praying and asking God if He would provide me with something I could fit into for the wedding as I’d not had much success previously in finding clothes that accommodated my growing bump. I was pleasantly surprised to find not one, but four gorgeous vintage numbers that embraced my bulging belly. Thank God for elasticized waists! This dress and this dress were two of the finds.
When my mom found out the grand total of this frock, she exclaimed “You ooze elegance even from a $20 dress because God has given you taste and style!” Receiving compliments from my mom is rare, but her words reminded me of something a famous prophet once said: “I will heartily rejoice in the Lord, my soul will delight in my God; for He has wrapped me in garments of salvation; He has arrayed me in a robe of righteousness“. There is no outfit more precious, gorgeous and chic than this!
Over the years, especially after the closure of my boutique, I learnt to not base my worth and identity in what I wear or look like, but on Jesus Christ. We are not what the world says we are, we are who He says we are – loved, cherished, freed, renewed, set apart. After all, it is He who paid the price for our priceless ‘outfit’- the “garment of salvation” and “robe of righteousness”!
My cousin had their wedding at Butleigh Wootton. It was the very last reception to be held at the venue as it had just been sold. It is one fine mansion. I used to jokingly call it “Butler Wonton”. I have had the privilege of attending two weddings there- the other one being of my previous business partner, see story here. No doubt the new owners will enjoy it immensely. I just hope that they don’t change that staircase!

That dress IS beautiful on you Cecylia, what a great find! :)
Congrats to your cousin on their wedding. I like the words in your post too, we are who God says we are and we are loved by Him.
Can’t really see the baby bump! You look amazing!
