Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve

by cecylia on March 27, 2012

I mentioned on Facebook and Twitter that I attended a bestie’s wedding last weekend, set in the magnificent Rupertswood Mansion. I went straight from work so had to get changed in the car, hence my slightly creased dress and dishevelled appearance. I found this label-less silk dress in an op shop, the intricate tailoring makes me suspect that it was home/tailor-made. It fits my bottom half like a glove, but my top half would probably need more stuffing in the rack department.

I have not seen these girls in the top photo for 15 years! But funnily enough, they are still recognizable from a mile away and I still adore them like I did as a naive school girl. My dear friends went on from academic excellence to become an optometrist and a doctor receptively. It’s funny that we all haven’t really changed…Even the bride. She has never failed to make me laugh with her indomitable humour. I had the best few years at that high school because of her. And although we’d lost contact for a decade, Facebook reunited us and I am once again blessed with her incredible friendship. I am forever indebted to you, Facebook.

I’m sure that you’d agree that these Vionnet heels and the violet frock were a pleasant match. Purely because Madam Vionnet was the pioneer of the bias cut and the grand-dame of Grecian-style, and her eternal influence was still evident in this dress. The neckline beckoned for pendulous earrings so I kept it simple with a royal colour palette- purple and gold. I’m not sure what the handkerchief-like bit of fabric is for..it was not detachable for me to wave it during the Turkish dancing nor was it able to serve its potential purpose as a lap napkin…But the sleeves were the most distinguished features – excellent at disguising tuck-shop lady arms whilst continuing with our regal theme.

Sorry, couldn’t help but be a poser at Rupertswood Mansion, the place is magnificent! Steeped in rich heritage and saturated with vintage eye-candy! I’ve been to over a hundred weddings in my lifetime, but each one of them is a highlight to me. And at this particular wedding, I even learnt that:

1. The strength of a friendship is not dependent on time.

2. If you cozy up to new acquaintances, you can steal their dessert.

3. Turkish dancing is the new Hip Hop.

Thank you so much H & B for having us on your beautiful day. Wishing you both a joyous and adventurous life together. And one final thing, ‘Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.‘ – Romans 12:10
