Modern Renaissance

by cecylia on January 30, 2012

What do you wear to weddings? It has come to my attention that for the past decade I’ve mainly worn dresses to weddings! How boring of me! The last few weddings I’ve recorded on the blog of me wearing dresses are here, herehere, here and here. (Wow that was a lot of weddings!) Inbetween these I attended one as a pianist and wore a blue blouse/pants set, seen here. Recently I decided to jump off the traditional wedding attire bandwagon and create quirky outfits that are still wedding-worthy. So the last wedding I attended I wore a tuxedo jumpsuit. And the wedding I attend on Australia Day last week created an opportunity for me to toy with a beloved trend- Renaissance.

So I pulled out my Victorian bellow-sleeve blouse, last seen here, and a H & M brocade skirt I’d discovered in an op-shop. Why anyone would get rid of a brand new brocade skirt (WITH POCKETS!) is just beyond me. I can only count my blessings and label it a ‘miracle-buy‘. Here is my darling friend Mei, who has been a big sister to this only-child-fashion-lover. Mei is also a self-confessed Net-a-Porter and Outnet addict. Don’t you just adore her Romance was Born silk dress? She is walking art. Baroque jewels and opulence, oh my!

So tell me, what do you wear to weddings? Are dresses your easy-option as well? Have you entered my SOSUME give-away yet? The Tee is made from the softest micro-modal, in Melbourne! I hope you’re embarking on a beautiful week, filled with surprises at every corner.

Where: at Victor & Rita’s wedding

Wear: vintage blouse, sunnies and belt, YSL ring, H & M skirt, wrist clutch from eBay, Scooter heels,

Like a Boy

by cecylia on October 2, 2011

Growing up, I was a tomboy who loved playing sport, arm wrestling and racing with the boys. One of these special childhood friends, Mick, just tied the knot with his stunning bride, Kimmy, last night. I rushed home after working as a vet and quickly got changed into my favourite tuxedo shirt, by Mr Rose, to attend their wedding. The collar of this shirt is ingenius, it has the best sleeve cuffs and an amazing chest panel. Instead of pairing it with a skirt or pants, which would be too ‘boring’, I was inspired by Net-A-Porter‘s ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl’ ad, so I teamed it with a beloved tailored jumpsuit, last seen here.

Check out this shirt’s collar!

Outfit: Mr Rose Tuxedo Frill shirt (check out their accessories!!! I’m a little obssessed…), jumpsuit I bought in Paris, vintage earrings, necklace, rings, belt and clutch, Miss Sixty heels

Thank you for all of your ‘get-well’ wishes because my immune system has finally triumphed over the flu! Thank God! I’m no longer tissue-dependant! I hope you had a relaxing weekend, thank you so much for your lovely comments on my blog, Facebook and Twitter pages. And if you’re free, come visit me this Sunday at the Take 2 Market at Hawthorn Town Hall if you would like to get your hands on some of my designer and vintage gems!

Congratulations Mick and Kimmy, wishing you only the most beautiful days ahead of you.

This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life.” —Anonymous

Wedding Bellissimo

by cecylia on February 18, 2011

I attended the most beautiul wedding of 2011 last month – the wedding of my gorgeous business partner, Linda, the mother of my best friend, my mentor and the lady that helped me make my dream come true.

After a long 17 years engagment, she and her wonderful fiance, Tom, finally tied the knot in a glamorous white marquee. I was pretty emotional for I had been praying for months that they would take this amazing step together. I was also really really tired from a really full-on day. The wedding was on the same day I had the denim shoot and then I had the privilege of playing piano at church. We rushed to the wedding after church, I didn’t get time to put on makeup and had to change into my dress in the car. This dress may look familiar to you, as I used it to style the gorgeous Ebony in this shoot. It looked much better on her.

Tom is Greek (I used an Italian title because I know even less Greek) and Linda was going to wear her red Sophia Kokosalaki dress for the main course of the dinner so I couldn’t resist a Grecian-inspired outfit for myself. Linda had 3 outfits, a Connie Simonetti gown, then a violet Oscar de la Renta one-shouldered dress from Net-a-Porter, and then the red Sophia Kokosalaki dress (straight from the runway). She was ravishing.

I actually gave myself the vintage challenge and wore EVERYTHING vintage- the dress, the jewellery, the belt, the shoes and even my Chrisitan Dior clutch. My favourite piece from this outfit would have to be the gold collar necklace- it gives me a rash afterwards as I have nickel allergy, but Linda was worth it :)

Red Sophia Dress

by cecylia on November 19, 2010

Whilst I was away at Paris Fashion Week, I missed out on 3 friends’ weddings. Yeah 3 in 2 weeks! But thank God, I was able to come back in time for Mary and Darren’s wedding. This chick Mary, we went to primary, secondary school, Chinese school and uni together! I love her like my own sister. Her new groom went to the same school as my husband. Small world! You may remember this post when I took photos at their place. Mairs, and Dazza, have an awesome honeymoon!

I wore my new Sophia Kokosalaki dress (my favourite piece from her AW11 collection), vintage cashmere coat, YSL ring and earrings, and the most comfortable vintage shoes (they have cushy soles!) which I got at a garage sale for $3! I found a vintage gold necklace at home and played around with different ways of wearing it with the red dress- trying to channel the ancient Grecian in me…

As you can see, a gold chain necklace can also be worn as a shoulder capelet and a belt.

I must apologize for the haircut- you may recall my cry on Twitter about it. I had it cut in Paris, thinking it would have been a worthwhile ‘experience’. It was an experience all right…this hairdressers (which I shalll keep anonymous), situated right opposite our apartment on Rue St Honore didn’t seem to understand a word of English, so we communicated via sign language. I motioned ‘scissor -cutting’  and ‘shoulder-length’ gestures as it was too difficult to do ‘layered’ and ‘thinning’. Then I immersed myself into a French fashion magazine and 15 minutes later, looked up and saw the shocking haircut I’d been given. So I quickly shook my arms and asked her to stop. I couldn’t say anything negative in French so I just thanked her…for the worst haircut I’ve ever had… Don’t you wish you could turn back time sometimes?

Anyway…I was in my favourite dress, with my best friends…I couldn’t worry about my dreaded haircut. Guess red is a common colour for weddings.

Below are my favourite photos from the night- I have gorgeous friends and I thank God for them.

Sweets, we should catch up more often, don’t let our busy schedules get in the way of our friendship. And don’t wait for a wedding to wear red.
