Is there anything more restorative, relaxing and required in our busy modern life than a stay-cation? I think not. I feel so blessed to have been able to spend 3 weeks in Spain but to have some time away from our normal routine, without having to do mundane (but necessary) tasks like cooking and cleaning for just a few days is just as soul enriching. Sometimes, it takes a new environment for introspection to occur. Sometimes we just need a staycation.
So let me share something I’ve learnt lately. Thanks to various books (The Revolution: A Field Manual for Changing Your World), podcasts (loving the Freakcomics and TED talks!), events (I’ve just been to a ‘Food As Medicine’ event at the Trupp Cooking School and a ‘wellness morning’ at the Park Hyatt Melbourne in celebration of Global Wellness Day last Saturday) and conversations I’ve had with friends and strangers, I’ve learnt that “everything is a choice”. Apparently, we make 3000-4000 choices a day. Each one of them, large or small, can have huge ramifications on our health, habits and happiness. In times of stress and sleep deprivation, I fell victim to the ‘but I had no choice…’ mentality. But now I realize, even the ‘no choice’ choice is a choice!
So whether or not I chose to drink water and eat fruit, wear vintage and Melbourne designer clothes like Chorus (because they carry less carbon footprint and I should support local businesses), read instead of spending hours on social media, prioritizing rest and relationships, or spending a staycation at the Park Hyatt, I’m making a choice, hopefully one that is better for my health, habits and happiness. After all, according to Jean-Paul Sartre: “We are our choices.”
I hope that you’re making the best choices every day, every minute. Maybe you need to adopt healthier options, form better habits, choose happiness, or maybe you just need a stay-cation. Either way, the choice is yours.
I hope you continue blogging — I love reading your site, and it’s not narcissistic at all, more of a diary of what you’ve been up to.
Also, that skirt is fab.
thanks so much Theresa! I really appreciate your comments. I’m glad that I don’t come across as narcissistic (any more:) sometimes there is a fine line between sharing and showing off isn’t it?
Gorgeous skirt!

Your skirt is beautiful!
I think a little time away to refresh ourselves is just what we need sometimes! It’s often the little choices that make a big difference too, you don’t realise the impacts the little choices make unless you step back and take a look at the bigger picture.
So I wish you all the best with your upcoming choices, whatever your options are! :)
you’re so right! It’s the little choices that we make every day that determines what the (big) outcome is later down the years. More reason to stop and think before we make any biggish decisions :D
I absolutely love this outfit Cecylia! You look gorgeous.
On the note of making better choices, I think every day I am trying harder to put more focus into my wellness, my body and my mind.
It’s definitely a journey but I feel so much better for it.
Hoep you’re enjoying your better choices x
x Luciana
Same here Luci! I definitely need to not overeat or go through emotional eating- we’re in it together! We should become accountability partners :D
Beautiful skirt! It’s really lovely : )
