Fashion Capitals of the World

by cecylia on March 25, 2012

With super talented personal stylist and photographer, Meagan Harding

Swinging with the editrix of Style Melbourne, Sarah

Last Friday I had the pleasure of attending the Fashion Capitals of the World Runway Show as a part of the cultural program of LMFF, which featured the brightest emerging designers from the Australian Academy of Design and its European exchange partners. The theme of the runway event was ‘My City’ whereby the designers drew inspiration from the individual styles of their cities, Barcelona, London, Melbourne, Milan and Paris. The result is an original array of incredible, emotive garments with unparalled creativity. Here are a few of my favourite looks from the night.

Colourful plastic plumage by ARNAU P. BOSCH from Barcelona

Light as a Feather by ROSER JIMENEZ MELSIO from Barcelona

Floral Series by JORDI ALVAREZ from Barcelona

Butter Soft Hides, by MARCO RUSSO, hailing from Milan

Marco Russo, was hands down my favourite. The complexity of his lines, pureness of his textures and expert juxtaposing techniques captivated my leather/fur lust from first glance. A true Milanese, employing only the most supple hides, demonstrates a utilitarian style that is both modern and luxe. When I researched a bit more about the designer, it was not surprising to find that he is currently working at Prada in Milan. Only the best for the best.

Another snuggle-worthy heirloom piece from MARCO RUSSO

The Grand Finale dress by JOSEPH JANG, featuring his, McQueen's and Galliano's faces...

...and a big mama train!!!

With Calvin, Vanity Press, not sure if he noticed how much I digged his fur jacket

2 of the best hairdos from the front row, Irish, StyleZilla, and Tutu, Wow Magazine

With Diane Masters, one of the original VOGUE models from the 50's. I want to know her secrets to elegance!

Ah, don’t you just adore young and talented designers! Unbridled imagination, unreal ingenuity, unbound by commercialism! Can’t wait to see what else these bright fashion geniuses come up with!

I did mention on Twitter and Facebook that I went to a wedding over the weekend. So stayed tuned, wedding shenanigans next up!

Where: Melbourne Central

Wear: Zara shirt, vintage blazer from Milan, Diesel jeans (last seen here), vintage brooch, bag, belt and shoes
