Hi lovely how was your weekend? Isn’t it incredible that we’ve had two long weekends in a row?! I was just musing about it with hubby and we realised that both weekends are in remembrance of sacrifices. Easter, the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, and Anzac Day, the people who have served our country in the wars. It feels kind of strange that I get to enjoy a holiday at the expense of others. But maybe that’s why we should be so grateful for both Easter and Anzac Day.
I recently watched a really funny and educational kids’ video called “Horrible Histories”, where unbelievable facts of the past are given a comedic twist to illustrate how ridiculous and fascinating they were. Snippets include “Terrible Tudors” “Vicious Vikings” and “Measly Middle Ages” just to name a few. I caught a few repeating themes. They were the contrast between the rich and the poor, and the inequality of men and women. In one scene, a famished peasant only had a turnip to eat whilst the rich aristocrat had a salmon, a swan, and a wild boar to roast. And in another, an Athenian and a Spartan couple were debating whose lifestyle was superior. They decided on a democratic vote. But of course, the Spartans won, because Athenian women aren’t allowed to vote!
So that got me thinking, how blessed are we to live in a gender-equal society/era. Girls are given education, and women the right to vote. Apparently only 30 years ago, it was frowned upon for women to work! Imagine what they’d say if they saw a girl wearing a shirt, drop-crotch pants and a gentleman’s hat! Ha!
I know that uni can be a bore sometimes and work can be stressful. Trust me, I used to be the queen of procrastination with my homework and I used to daydream about holidays when I was at work. But since I’ve been on maternity leave, I have really missed working. Not to mention after watching Horrible Histories, I realise that it is a gift to learn and a privilege to work, especially for a girl. So let’s not squander the opportunities we’ve been blessed with!

Love the pink and blue together! Such a nice colour combination :)
And we are very lucky indeed to live (and work) in such a progressive country! I will definitely be missing work when I finish up next month :)
