Soft as Steele

by cecylia on October 11, 2011

Recently I was introduced to a Melbourne label who embodies bohemian glamour, called Steele. The design duo behind Steele sure knows what girls want, want to wear! I absolutely love this romantic terracotta strapless maxi dress with quilted bust details from their SS11 collection and cannot stop eyeing off their new AW11 collection, check it out here. This maxi is actually a tad big for me so I teamed it with an Equipment cropped wool top to ‘fill’ it out a little. I do have a habit of teaming strapless dresses with tops underneath, remember how I wore this gold leather BCBG strapless dress during Rosemount Fashion Week with a crisp white shirt? I always debut my strapless dresses ‘as is’ to an event, then style it with a top underneath to add an element of surprise the second time.

This Dimacci ’Orsini’ cuff is another favourite right now, inspired by the elegant equine, it is so classy and timeless. It literally empowers me when I wear it. Just adore the gorgeous Italian leather and gold horse-bit hardware. Dimacci have every colour you can imagine with either silver and gold-plated stainless steel, available in double-wrap, triple-wrap or wide leather band like this one. The new collection also incorporates beautiful belts and accessories with Swarovski crystals! I am also in love with the mint and silver one, see here. Very tempted to get ‘double-cuffing’!

Outfit: Equipment wool top, Steele Maxi dress, vintage necklace (see a similar one by Maison Martin Magiela here), shades, belt and bracelets; Dimacci Orsini leather cuff, Robert Robert heels

Sorry about me sans makeup, these photos were taken on a day that was going to rain, so hubby and I headed out into the ‘woods’ first thing in the morning with our new lens.

I hope you are all having a wonderful start to the week! It turns out that it was our canine son Theodore’s birthday a few days ago, I didn’t even know (bad mom)! But thank God for Facebook, yes Theodore is also on Facebook, and you can be his friend here :) Yesterday Theodore ‘acted’ in a commercial for a beautiful Australian accessories designer. My lips are sealed about this project but no doubt I will be showcasing the final product for you in the near future. Can’t wait!Theodore was super lucky to work with the legendary movie/TV animal trainer Luke Hura, who trained Red Dog. He’s work is superb. Even as a vet, I was in awe. Despite it being his first time, Theodore was a little champion and needless to say, I am a very proud mom.

I hope that the weather is behaving wherever you may be and that each day brings you love and joy. Thank you for being such a supportive reader of my blog!

xx

Kiss of Kyla

by cecylia on June 29, 2011

In the previous post I introduced a new talented designer to you- Kyla Crozier. Do you still remember the inspiration behind her ‘Where the Heart Is‘ collection? If not, have a read here. I teamed up her blouse with my Zara red leather skinnies, which ripped at the knee upon my very first wear. Nevertheless I still love it and it goes with so many shirts!

I bought this furry muff (please don’t laugh!) at the Lost & Found Market on Smith St Collingwood, one of my favourite vintage haunts now! You can find anything and everything there. It is retro heaven! I was going to wear this muff to Mission 65 but in the end I didn’t as I would have had no place to put it with camera and drinks and all!

I have been wanting to sport the double cuff look, only problem is that all my bracelets are one-offs as they are vintage. But luckily I found these gold cuffs (in Russian?) in separate vintage stores!

And in case you’re wondering about my eyelashes. You’re probably thinking no asian has lashes that long, then  you’re right! They have been extended by the lovely Ardita, from . She is the only one I trust with my lashes now!

What I wore: Kyla Crozier silk blouse, Zara leather pants, vintage jewellery, bow-tie, muff and shoes

To find fur muffs and other gorgeous vintage gems- visit Lost & Found Market, 12 Smith St Collingwood

To support this talented emerging designer, visit Kyla Crozier’s website here.

For luscious lash extensions with a professional edge- make an appointment with Ardita, please contact her on 0451 951 464

Celebrate with YSL!

by cecylia on October 9, 2010

I’m in Paris right now and really missing my dear friends in Melbourne especially Jess. So here is a post dedicated to her- missing you heaps ma cherie!

There was another event I attended at MSFW with my beautiful friend/fellow-blogger/stylist Jess from whatwouldkarldo. We got tickets to see Celebration at ACMI, the film that captured the later years and the legacy that the legendary Yves Saint Laurent left for his maison. A very fitting title I’d say. Many thanks to film programmer James Nolen for the tickets! Merci beaucoup!

Me: Gorman leather top, vintage necklace, Karla Spetic printed skirt, Omero tights, Zara jacket, Pauric Sweeney bag

Jess: Asos wrap cardigan, Chloe boots and bag, Fornarina necklaces

Tim Burton’s exhibition is on at ACMI and you can see the cute blue man/balloon hangs behind us. We ate dinner at Cafe Alto on High St that has yummy pastas! Then we headed down to Federation Square to see our much-anticipated movie!

Both Jess and I adore YSL, see Jess’ YSL cage shoes here. Ok she’s really into Karl Lagerfeld, as you may have deducted from her blog. And I’m more of a Martin Margiela fan (See my boots here)  but hands down YSL is the one of, if not, the most legendary French designer of the 20th century. The designer of dreams and vision, he is the couturier who helped to resurrect haute couture again from the 60′s. He has won countless design competitions in his youth and awards in his profession including a solo exhibition by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He was hired at the tender age of 17 by the leading couturier at the time, Christian Dior, because of his amazing sketches. Saint Laurent became head designer at Dior at age 21 and brought financial stability to the House once again. In 1966, YSL opened his own Rive Gauche store, among the attendees was customer and muse Catherine Denevue.

This documentary was banned in France because instead of showing the glamour and glitz of the designer’s life, director Oliver Mayrou depicts YSL in a light that the world has not seen him in- his fragile, reclusive and tortured side. This is often true, the best of the best are often lonely, it’s as if they need to become immersed in their creations- do you remember Gabrielle Coco Chanel in ‘Coco avant Chanel’?

Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent passed away in 2008 from a brain tumour. He may have left, but his maison remains and Stefano Pilatti is carrying on his legacy with aplomb.

A celebration of YSL 1 August 1936 – 1 June 2008

Spijkers Strike Again!

by cecylia on October 7, 2010

It was such a pleasure to meet the Spijkers twins again, this time in Milan! I was invited to their showroom in Milan and viewed their diffusion collection- SIS.. Let’s just say that I adored every piece and the nautical/sailing theme will be very fitting for our Australian summer. One of their stunning pieces has been lent to the Maritime Museum in Holland!

Truus on the left and Riet on the right. Riet is responsible for the pattern making and Truus for choosing the fabrication. What a great team! They’re wearing pieces from their previous collections. Can you recognise Riet’s top? You would have seen it here.

Federico (who works for the studio), the Spijkers designers and me working hard =) Federico is so handsome I asked if he used to model, he joked and said ‘No, only for socks.’ in his hunky English accent.

Ah so I’ve got to tell you about my FoxTown purchases! FoxTown is near the  border of Swtizerland and Milan, only 1 hour bus ride away from Milan’s Cairoli station. It is the best outlet I’ve ever been to. It was so good that we ended up going twice! I got these Fendi boots there, last pair, in my size! And the YSL postcard belt (see above). I’m wearing vintage shirt and leather pants (from eBay!) and designer accessories. The sea urchin necklace is by Natalia Brilli, my favourite French leather lady. She has a knack of being able to wrap anything and everything in leather. See this post I made about her.

This is the communal computer I’ve been communicating with Australia on. Look forward to going to Paris to our apartment which has WiFi! Speak soon!

Ciao bella!
