I’ve wanted to create a “music video” for you for a while now. However, searching for a location that offered a piano was no easy feat (or maybe I wasn’t looking in the right places), so I was thrilled to hear that the newly furbished Hawthorn Arts Centre (previously known as the Hawthorn Town Hall, where my friend Rina previously ran her Take 2 Markets) offered a piano for me to play. Oh, and did they ever!? Do you recall my Instagram photo with the “Having my way with a Steinway” caption? Well, here is the end product.
Having not played the piano for 10 years, it was by chance that I picked it up again recently. Hubby was away on an overseas trip, I was bored… This piece by J.S Bach, “The Italian Concerto” was given to me by a dear friend when we were still in high school. Having deemed it too difficult to sight-read, it was left to collect dust, until recently. I was determined to befriend all the keys again and regain my music-reading skills. And before I knew it, not only was I playing a piece I’d been afraid of for over 10 years, I’d memorized it. I’m no pianist, nor do I consider myself a musician, this is merely a demonstration of how learning to play the piano again helped me to fight “Preggy Brains“.
This recording was filmed at the Hawthorn Arts Centre 1 week before Winston was born. I feel so honoured to have had the privilege to preview the splendour of the Hawthorn Arts Centre’s multi-million dollar makeover, and to be able to play such a magnificent instrument.

Thank you so much Delia! I know, I feel so blessed to have re-started playing the piano this year, before I was pregnant! So I’d already developed the habit before he came along :D Thank you so much for your well wishes, we are thrilled with him!

[…] Although I’ve know Monica for a few years now, she never ceases to amaze me. OK I will admit, I’m actually a little in awe of her. Lawyer, business woman, restauranteer, fashion designer, and mother of two, I’ve not met anyone as intelligent, generous and still as down-to-earth as Monica. Plus, she also plays the piano! […]
