I wore a vintage Yves Saint Laurent dress, vintage earrings, belt & ostrich clutch (last seen [HERE]), Country Road sandals
Would you believe it if I told you that this rather young country of ours houses the oldest department store still trading under its original name in the world? What a feat! Since 1838, David Jones has held true to its mission to offer its clients “the best and most exclusive goods’. Well it’s hard to go past Alexander McQueen, Celine and Yves Saint Laurent. Great customer service and luxury are synonymous with the world-class retail giant. David Jones always had a special place in my heart. My best friends have worked there, I’ve worked there, some of my friends still work there, it’s the only place I buy makeup at and how can anyone go past its promise? Was. Is. Always. Sounds like an eternal love story right there.
To celebrate its amazing birthday of 175 years, David Jones housed a magnificent runway show presenting the key AW13 trends from the nation’s brightest designers. Of course, this took place in Sydney. But we easy-going Melbournians were stoked to still be a part of this glamorous showcase via an ingenious live screening. It was as if we were at the pictures. Instead of popcorn, we ate salads, instead of choc tops, triffle desserts satisfied our sweet tooth. And instead of silencing our smart phones, I worked mine so hard it nearly carked it.
After the live show which featured the uber bubbly Miranda Kerr, the stunning Montana Cox, Jessica Gomes, Samantha Harris and Mr Jason Dundas, the Bourke St Melbourne store gave us an exclusive presentation of some of the key trends this Autumn/Winter, styled to perfection by Connel Chiang. Bold, matching suiting from Bianca Spender and fantastical peplums thanks to Rachel Gilbert are now on my wish-list. As I watched the designers draw inspiration from previous eras, I thanked Coco Chanel and mused to myself “Fashion changes. But style…Was.Is. Always…”
Happy Birthday David Jones! And also happy Chinese New Year!
