Chequered Past

by cecylia on July 20, 2012

Bento jacket, Norma Kamali dress, vintage shades (similar cat eye pairs here), bag and brooch, Paula Walden ring, Miss Sixty pumps (a similar pair by Miu Miu here)

My wonderful mother-in-law gave me this vintage Norma Kamali dress she used to wear in the 80s. Super soft cotton, adorable collar, bat-wing sleeves and bias cut drop-waist skirt, it was just a matter of time that this dress would be relevant again in the 21st century. The first thing I did was a little research on the designer: New York based Norma Kamali is best known for designing a red one-piece bathing suit worn by Farrah Fawcett in the original Charlie’s Angels, and shoulder pads! Sadly, I removed her signature features because sharp shoulders on me are eye-sores. Oh! And Kamali was the first designer to create an online store on eBay! Speaking of eBay, it’s where I acquired this bag 4 years ago from! It finally has its moment of glory on the blog! What do you think of the structured bag look?

Have an amazing weekend lovelies! 祝你过一个愉快的周末!

I love a structured bag. Probably because it can be dressed up or down which makes it far more versatile. To me that means I will use it more and then I don’t mind spending a bit more on it if I use it all the time.
Man do I wish my mother-in-law dressed as wonderfully as yours! :)

cecylia July 23, 2012 at 6:37 pm

Thank you Laura! Another great thing about structured bags is that you don’t tend to lose things in them :) Everything tends to be compartmentalised! July 22, 2012 at 9:32 pm

Great style, you look so classy and elegant :)

jessica konstantinos July 22, 2012 at 10:14 pm

Notice this dress is very interestingly cut. And it fits you so well too. Lucky girl! Your grandma must have very good taste too … Thanks for your comment on my blog! I guess you must already visit BOS on Cockatoo Island! I just can’t believe that everything is handmade. I’ve made a white box with embossed pattern before and it took me the whole week! Hope the artist has some little helpers doing all these large-scale works for him :)

cecylia July 23, 2012 at 6:37 pm

Where is Cockatoo Island? Wow I’ve got to check out that place!
