I get comments about my skin a lot. It’s ironic because my face used to be quite acne-ridden as a teen but since I hit the 20s, they just fell off. That said, I still suffer from singular pimple outings from time to time. I call it ”Oscar”. It enjoys riding on my chin like a fare-evader and likes coming uninvited to fashion events with me.
As you also know, I don’t have the best diet, chips and cakes are my daily staples and I don’t eat enough fruit and vegies. But I’m trying to eat more ‘nude’ food (unprocessed/unpackaged food) as of late, because skin health is really a reflection of one’s inner health. The best creams can’t beat good sleep, good diet and good exercise. But since you asked for it, here are a few of my skin saviours…
This is my very basic skin care routine:
- During the day I only wear sunscreen, SPF 30+. Not all sunscreens are created equal. Look out for zinc in the ingredients to ensure that your skin gets the best protection
- I always wash my face at night, nothing too stripping, I use an oil-based remover if I have makeup on.
- I hardly wear makeup (because I don’t know how!), only mascara and occasionally a lippie.
- I exfoliate twice a week
- At night, I always wear either a serum or a moisteriser.
- I drink lots of water and green tea every day but I do have a soft spot for white wine…
- I don’t wear an eye cream (yet!) but I try and wear sunglasses whenever I can.
Out of all the products on the shelves, these 3 deserve an honorary mention:
1. The Clinique SPF30+ sunscreen – lightweight, lightly-pigmented, the only thing I wear during the day
2. Origins ”Out of Trouble” mask – the BEST treatment mask I’ve ever used- from the creamy texture to the gentle tingle- my face literally looks brighter afterwards!
3. Grown facial moisteriser– like patting on a blended fruit and herb garden on my face. What I wear to bed. This cream is made from organic ingredients locally grown here in Melbourne!
Just like my hair routine, very minimalist. So dear ones, if you have any advice on skincare or good products, please send them my way! Have a sweet weekend!
What’s your experience with bio oil?
Love it. I use it as a cleanser and a face/body moisturiser. I have too many scars from being a vet so not sure if they actually fade them…I try at least
It’s always nice to know other beauty routines, I have quite sensitive skin and I still try to find the best stuff. Nowadays I try to use organic stuff and BB creams… But you and your skin look really amazing just like your hair. Xo

Thanks darl, I’m yet to try BB cream, a friend recommended it so can’t wait!
Amazing post! i love your blog
i invite you to enjoy the black and white trend
A chic kkiss ;-)
I am a fan L’Occitane and they are the primary range I buy these days. Their dry skin hand cream with 20% shea butter is the one product I use daily and have for quite a few years now. Also love their apple and almond scrub. Sohum’s AmberNoir creme royal is also lovely, but can be hard to get.
As Viki said, your skin always looks amazing so you must be doing something right. :)
Thank you Michelle for your amazing tips- I’ll go try L’Occitane now :)
haha, I do love the minimalist routine and I must say, I only follow a simple routine too as I’m awfully laazy, I only wish MY routine worked half as well as yours does!
gah, your blog is beautiful. i’m in love with this layout!! :)
xx
love clinique!
I absolutely subscribe to the KISS method for skincare and haircare! My routine is just soap for my face at night or Moogoo’s oil cleanser if I have makeup on. I wash my face with a face cloth and I find that exfoliates really well too. In the morning just water and a firm wipe with the face cloth is usually enough. For moisturiser I looove MooGoo’s anti ageing face cream.
I used to have absolutely terrible skin too but I think the number one thing that helps is a) getting past the teenage years and b) enough sleep!
Very curioous about that Grown moisturiser though.
Ooh I haven’t heard of the KISS method! Enlighten me! Face cloths are the best
Oh, it’s not any method in particular. KISS= keep it simple, stupid :P
I have a bajillion products leftover from when I first started getting into the whole skin care hype, then I realised it was all mostly marketing and that the simplest time-honoured methods worked the best! I’ve also made my own exfoliating face masks which work super, super well, but honestly I’m too lazy to even do those now.
lol yes simple is always best- our skin wasn’t designed to soak in a bajillion (great word!) chemicals. What’s your face mask recipe?
Got a couple: most effective for clearing away dead skin is an aspirin and honey mask. For tightening, use an egg whites/milk mask. I also have a really luxurious moisturising one – mixture of soy bean lees/milk/honey/orange juice.
I used to make my own organic apple cider vinegar toner and oil face cleanser too.
My philosophy is that if it isn’t safe enough to eat, then it’s not safe to put on your skin! (Also, it ended up being very cheap.)
LOL at Oscar the unwanted pimple! That’s funny! I used to have pretty good skin too, but since I’ve started taking steroids, I feel like I’m some gross and spotty teenager again! I swear it’s worse than it’s ever been. Ugh. Maybe I will have to try some of these products to try and get my normal skin back again! :S
Aww you poor thing, how come you’re taking steroids?
Ah you are lucky you have such beautiful skin and such a simple skin care routine :)
I have to be very careful what products I use any new ones usually cause massive breakouts!

love that cocoa butter – I have a small version of it in my bag always :)

INSIDE IN INSIDE OUT
yes it has the best smell doesn’t it!
I have sensitive skin so use specific products that I do not react to. My absolute favourite cleanser of all time is Intral Cleansing Milk by Darphin. The serum in the same line is amazing as well. A night cream I cannot live without is the Elemis-Pro-Collagen Marine Cream.
