One highlight of RAFW was visiting the offsite Melbourne jewellery showroom. 5 emerging jewellers, Estelle Deve, Hamish Munro, Henson, Van Der Glas and Young Hunting, form the Melbourne Metal Collective. The name reminds me of the silversmith guild of antiquity, so cool! Check out their website, it makes my drool. They have an online store too, see here! It was a little homely pad of awesomeness. I was enthralled by all the designers and their edgy pieces.
I was so excited to meet Estelle Deve, I saw her jewellery a year ago and was blown away by the raw beauty in her pieces. I was thrilled to meet the gorgeous designer and see her new collection. When Estelle greeted me, I thought she was the model in the showroom, blond, tall, Parisian, no wonder her jewellery is also so good-looking.
Oxidized silver pieces of her signature ‘florals’. I saw a few hip fashionistas spot Estelle’s pieces front-row at RAFW in gold, they looked amazing on!
Another collection that caught my eye and tickled my fancy was Van Der Glas. Her pieces are inspired by materials that once used to be a part of the human body. This collection, Van Der Glas features pieces made from real human teeth, real human hair and also casts of them. This may sound a little odd, but not at all to me. When I was growing up, I loved visiting museums which showcased mummified creatures, I thought they were so fascinating. When I was in Paris last year, I saw a floor-length gown made entirely of black human hair. It was pure couture, avant-garde and a little weird, just the way I love it. Van Der Glas’ collection really spoke to me, here are some of my favourite pieces I would like to share with you, and hopefully you see the beauty in them.
I am in love with these blond and red-haired necklaces and bag Van Der Glas can also make bespoke pieces- so you can provide your own hair to have these pieces made. Too bad I cut my hair and didn’t save it! Next time :)
If you have good eyesight, you may see the sign above my head: ‘Don’t even think about parking across this driveway’. Attitude! This sign was opposite the Melbourne Metal Collective showroom. Very fitting. As we all know, jewellery should compliment your outfit, but with MMC, they MAKE the outfit.
I love your look!!! it’s amazing!!!
Kisses.
