Even though I can play the piano and the drums, I cannot ride the bicycle. Many have attempted to teach me, but all have failed. I nearly ran over a friend and ruined another’s bike. Life would be a lot more convenient if you can ride a bike- you can get to places, you can explore European cities in (literally) an effortlessly chic way and you can even be photographed by The Sartorialist!
I have compiled a couple of photos of achingly stylish women who navigate their way around the world on bicycles. Enjoy the ride.
Eva Fontanelli, the Audrey Hepburn-incarnate (in a fashion sense, anyway), wearing a feather hat, Vivienne Westwood for Melissa heels (fabulous colours!) and a shiny patent leather red clutch. These are the public bikes in Paris.
Nearly running over the photographer? This is a perfected polished/grunge look that I adore. Check out the studs on that leather motorcycle vest and the cute denim overalls underneath. Her vintage sunnies make her look a little like the mono-browed Mexican famed female painter Frida Kahlo. I like her chains and rings too.
OK, she’s not actually riding a bike, just using bicycles as a backdrop. You have to admit that Gaelle Drevet’s canvas smock dress with the loud sailing motif is cute. It sure is eye-catching and the relaxing nautical look makes you feel like you are on holidays. I love her patent Givenchy sandals!
What a great summery outfit- chic and comfortable enough to ride in. Miu Miu Bag in the basket and bowed Marc Jacobs strappy sandals to paddle the bike. She is gorgeous. I have the bag version of her shoes. If only I could ride a bike…
Pink suede wedges! Love love love. Not everyone can pull of flowery crop pants. but the black blazer and white T ensemble provide a very nice contrast (and balance) to her lower half. She is well balanced on the bike too. Let’s hope her leather hobo does not get caught in her front wheel.
A yellow bike! How fun! The canary bicycle is part of her outfit. Don’t you love the neckpiece on her halter dress? The red buttons look like Smarties. I am surprised that she can ride with a billowing skirt. Wedges are good to ride with though.
I’ve saved a couple of these photos too! And I agree those vintage sunnies are sooooo awesomely steampunky. I am now browsing ebay for them :)
I actually wanted to get a retro dutch style bike, for stylish rides threw Canberra, but settled for a very practical flat bar road bike instead. Oh well!
I guess I’m going to have get the old bike out the cupboard… I think Marios Schwab did similar sunglasses to the cool ones in the photo!
