Konstruktive

by cecylia on December 26, 2011

Happy Boxing Day everyone! How did you celebrate Christmas? On Christmas Eve, I surprised hubby with a visit to a nursing home where we carolled to the elderly residents with attempted harmonies. It was so much fun- for us and for them! We met a stylish centenarian who looked  decades younger, she revealed that her secret to longevity is to talk to everyone she meets- ‘every Tom Dick and Harry.’ Sounds like a great New Year Resolution! Our parents and a friend joined us for dinner afterwards. I roasted a turkey for the first time! Must say, having friends and family over for dinner is a great way to force myself to cook. Gotta do it more often!

Lately I’ve been obsessed with shirt dresses, functional and easy chic, they are perfect for everyday dressing. I found the khaki dress recently (was actually purchased in Switzerland 3 years ago) in the black hole of my closet and am uber excited to debut it for you with this amazing leather hat by KONSTRUKT. For all the Hermés-admirers out there, I’m sure you’ll empathise with me as to why I fell hard for this hat. Butter soft hide, creamy pastel, it was love at first sight. I actually ordered it 4 months ago and was hoping to wear it to the races…but just as well, it arrived in time for summer, now I doubt I’ll leave home without it.

Outfit: Konstrukt hat, Specsavers prescription sunnies, Orwell dress, Alex Monroe ring, vintage belt, bag and bracelets, Melissa shoes

Ooh and I finally got prescription sunglasses, so I can now drive without squinting. I’m really intrigued to know what you all received for Christmas! Tell tell! I’ll start first since you twisted my arm, I bought another Roksanda Ilincic dress, can’t wait for it to arrive :)

Did you love your Christmas pressies? If not, I have just launched my online outlet over the weekend which include designer garments from the Cecylia boutique as well as vintage gems from my wardrobe which I have collected for years but have hardly ever (some never) worn. Something special for yourself for 2012 perhaps? xx

Marvelous Melissas: Score a $100 Melissa Voucher!

by cecylia on November 4, 2011

Hello everyone! Welcome to my 500th blog post! Have I got a lovely surprise for you! :)

I have been a Melissa fan since I was a little girl! Who can forget their childhood memories of wearing colourful jelly shoes? I remember running through the water, the rain, the beach with them, just because I could! Now that I’m a big girl now, I still adore them!

Here I am wearing my favourite Melissas-  the Patchuli wedges, in Mauve, with a vintage jumper, brooch, sunnies, scarf and bag and my beloved Yeojin Bae silk skirt.

My Patchulis also come in 5 other delicious colours, see here! I was drawn to the delicate ankle strap, the peep-toe and the line down the heel, which is reminiscent of the lines running up the back of stockings in the 50s, utterly sexy. Melissas are super comfy, easy to care for, we can wear them in the rain and they have that delicious bubblegum smell. Theodore likes them too :)

If you are also a Melissa fan, (who isn’t?) then you’re in luck, because I am so happy to announce that Melissa will be giving away a $100 voucher for one of Cecylia.com’s loyal readers to spend on their online store here. Thank you so much Melissa for your kind generosity! Ahh so many styles and colours to choose from, if you get stuck, feel free to contact me. :)

All you need to do to be in the draw to be the winner is to follow me on Google, Facebook, Twitter or Bloglovin’, AND also like Melissa‘s Facebook page, and leave a comment . Too easy! The winner will be announced next Friday 11th November. Happy winning!

Think Inside the Square

by cecylia on October 28, 2011

Recently Melbourne Central invited me to select 5 favourite Spring Racing accessories from a myriad of their amazing boutiques, to be featured in ‘The Accessory Cube’, a Pop-Up store to get us Races-ready. Spring Racing fashion isn’t just about the dress, the emphasis is on the entire ensemble. And as we all know, the right accessories can dramatically up the style ante. I had a ball choosing the pieces but it was no easy feat, I felt like a judge at Fashion Stakes! After much wandering around the centre and deciding, I am proud to announce these favourites:

  1. Tilkah multi-strand bracelet- the 3 pretty summer colours (turquoise, clear and apricot) ensure it match nearly every outfit you have, and you won’t want to take it off as the weather warms up and your tan darkens
  2. Fame Agenda pastel pink leather belt with gold hardware – the perfect belt for a dress, a flawless balance between dainty and edgy, and only $60!
  3. Melissa Lady Dragon glittery heels – a design collaboration by British fashion doyenne Vivienne Westwood, high-end designer with an affordable price tag, plus these are uber comfy so you can last longer on your feet, and in case Melbourne weather doesn’t behave you don’t have to cry over soiled leather, you can just go home and wash them.
  4. Thurley acrylic hard-case sphere bag (comes with a shoulder chain)- again, water resistant and utter eye candy. My jaw hit the ground when I saw this bag. Plus you can practise bowling with it.
  5. Vintage Rose bouquet head piece, from Olrik – a floral fascinator is the epitome of chic in spring and is guaranteed to turn heads, all for the right reasons.

Melbourne Central is offering their visitors a chance to win the accessories by simply uploading a picture of your favourite accessory from the Cube onto their Facebook page. What an amazing offer! Visit the Pop up store for more details.

The black dress I’m wearing may seem familar to you, and that’s because it’s a Miss Lyndel Yeo dress I wore with a vintage thermometer in this post.

As you know, I am an accessories-fanatic, I was the buyer of my boutique, and was blessed to come 3rd in the Caulfield Chadstone Fashion Stakes (see here), so you can rest assured that I picked the creme de la creme accessories from Melbourne Central for you.

Visit The Accessory Cube on Level 2, available until 6th November 2011. Have a beautiful weekend everyone, especially those of you attending Derby Day. I won’t be at the Races unfortunately, I have to work at the vets. Happy snapping and happy shopping!

All photos taken my hubby Chian, see his HILARIOUS animated blog here.

Clash of the Stripes

by cecylia on June 8, 2011

On the last day of RAFW, it was a lot less manic. There were a lot less photographers clicking away, less attendees at the shows and less crowded at the VIP bar :) To be honest, I was so tired, I skipped a few shows too. The highlight of Day 5 was watching the Raffles graduation show. You know how I love supporting young talented things.

My dear friend Samantha, of Bento designed this chic and practical checked wool jacket, I actually have matching pants at home and was tossing up wearing them or the blue Felder Felder leather skirt. In the end, the skirt won.

When I saw my friends from Melbourne here, I didn’t feel like I was in a foreign city any more. They remind me of home! Here is Micah, of Raww Blog, and Cheryl, the Business Chic Creator. So stylish! I’ve never seen anyone wear colour like her all week! Check out their coloured nails! Why chose one colour when you can have more!

Here is Lady Melbourne (right) with her new trend of ankle binders. I think they will take off! Wear a black pair and wait to be stopped in the streets about them. But yeah, Phoebe’s red Melissa shoes are absolutely stunning.

After the Raffles show, Leeyong, of Style Wilderness blog, and I started comparing notes. We both loved NOSNIM, the first collection showcased by Winson Tan. I can’t get this guy’s name off my tongue. Loving this space-age structural pieces. I love designers who focus attention to the cut of the garment, rather than the embellishment. See an excellent write-up about the young emerging designers here.

And this Bento jacket is also a cut above. I love the side pockets and the pink lining! I wore it with my white shirt, previously teamed with a gold leather dress seen here; vintage necklace, brooch, belt and bag; Felder Felder leather skirt (available at the boutique) and YSL pumps.

And that is the end of RAFW! Thank you Sydney for a fabulous week – great weather, great food, great shows and great friends.

Bisous!
