Lucid Dreaming by Jolet

by cecylia on January 2, 2012

Blame it on Leonardo DiCaprio. He first captivated all of us Juliette-wannabes with his dreamy looks in the modern Shakespeare adaption by Baz Lurhmann, then he confused us and confounded us with his vivid dreams in Inception. I’m not sure if Melbourne-based designer, Jolet (last seen here) was inspired by the Hollywood heartthrob’s films or not (should have asked her when I had coffee with her last week!) but her new SS11/12 collection is romantic enough for us to all feel like a beautiful Claire or Marion.

I have been itching to show you this tangerine Karla Spetic blouse with cut-outs for a while now. It was one of the only pieces my business partner left me when she left me which fit me, the rest of the boutique pieces are now available for adoption here.

These fork earrings are super handy for picnic days or if you rock up uninvited to a BBQ. I would love to meet the first person to ‘invent’ these and given them a pat on the back- what a quirky way to recycle something so practical!

You probably remember my favourite ivory tassel necklace in this post, but I wanted to also show you the compartments! A true vintage gem, as ancient Chinese used to store medicinal herbs (or so they say) in these! There’s a similar necklace on sale here!

Where: on the way to return library books

Wear: Karla Spetic shirt, vintage shades, earrings, necklace (similar one here) and belt, Jolet skirt, vintage wicker bag, Repetto shoes

I bought Jolet’s Lucid Dream silk pleated skirt as a Christmas present to myself. Jolet’s pieces are exquisitely tailored and are all made locally here in Melbourne. Go on, support our local designers, they are the future!

Wearing the skirt makes me feel like I’m on an exotic destination. Lucid dream indeed. Happy New Year to you! xx

PS- Tell me how you celebrated your NYE on Facebook, Twitter or Google+!

Edenborough Evans, an Italian Love Affair

by cecylia on October 26, 2011

Ciao bella! Can you believe that it’s actually spring in Melbourne? But the weather here is like a flexible gymnast who is a keen show-off. I had a cold not long ago so have learnt (via the hard way) the importance of keeping warm. So here I am, layered up, in the middle of Spring. I recently found these vintage Moschino pants I’ve had for years (last time I wore them was 3 years ago in Dublin) and have refriended them. The scarf is a new addition from the local op-shop, Italians sure know how to make their knits.

I mentioned an Edenborough Evans necklace I got from Arabella Ramsay in this post. The jewellery are wearable pieces of art blending opulent Florentine designs with Melbourne street style, totally up my alley. Anna Cowen, the designer, is a Melbourne-based Visual Arts graduate who trained in Italy, and has her jewels stocked in boutiques from Paris to New York. One of Edenborough Evans’ devotees is none other than the stunning fashionista Ruby Rose, who is also an avid supporter of fine Australian designers. Here is a closer view of the self-engraved sterling silver necklace, oh no still a little blurry… Hammering ’10 Nov 07′, our wedding anniversary date, onto the plate was no easy feat, but hubby did very well. It really is a test of your concentration skills and a nouveau experience not to be missed!

Outfit: Vintage sunnies, Chloe jacket (last seen here), Miss Sixty jumper, Moschino pants, Edenborough Evans necklace, vintage ivory/tassel necklace (last seen here), Damselfly ring, vintage scarf, Repetto shoes

Hammer your very own Edenborough Evans necklace at the whimsical Arabella Ramsay store

1073 High St Armadale Tel: 03 9824 4490

See Edenborough Evans’ full collection on their online store here, trust me you are in for a treat!

And by the way, for those of you who are wondering why I never talk about my boutique anymore, you can find out why here. I’m fine, don’t worry about me, I just feel so incredibly blessed by the whole experience and for your amazing support. So thank you so much dear ones. And who knows what the future may hold for Cecylia? Guess you’ll just have to keep reading and find out :)

Shang High Tea

by cecylia on September 9, 2011

Last weekend I had the utmost pleasure of attending a Shanghai Tea, the highly anticipated Oriental High Tea event organised by the beautiful Alison Waters, hosted by the Ambassador of Glamour, Candice De Ville at the Oriental Tea House in Melbourne Central. What an experience! Not only were we embraced by the company of a gorgeously dressed crowd, we were treated to healthy and delicious Yum cha courses (prawn and Wagu beef dumplings) with fragrant teas (I had the ‘Releaxation Tea’), and the best part is learning about the history of teas, the social etiquettes of dining with an oriental family, the correct way of making tea in order to bring out the best aroma and taste, and much much more. I am from Shanghai and I still learnt so many historial facts and anecdotal sweet tales. It was such a delightful afternoon!

I was so delighted to see Anna and Bianca Linklater at the event. You may recall seeing Anna in this post, she is the designer and creator of Violet & I. Can’t wait to see her parade at Made in Melbourne, on this Saturday night! Mint is such a sweet colour for spring and both girls demonstrate how it should be worn. Anna is wearing the most divine kimono jacket by Melbourne designer Pamela Usanto. I die!

Told you I was in great company- here are the ladies on my table, Ayr (far right) is a chemist, a model and a blogger. I thought she looked familiar, I’d seen here on Candice’s portfolio before! Check out her blog here.

The charming, witty and stunning Alison Waters, whom I had the utmost pleasure of meeting at the event. I had actually see her at the 40s Party in this post. I could not take my eyes off her demure silk embroidered jacket.

Many many thanks to the Host and Presenter of the day- the beautiful Candice. She is a lady of eloquence and elegance, qualities which I greatly admire. I had so much fun at the Shanghai Tea event and not only enjoyed the amnience, the food, the teas but especially her presentation. Sometimes I wish all of our meals had an educational component to it! It’s so lovely to embrace a culture by its food, the preparation, the presentation, and the culinary programme!

I rushed to this event after working at the vets, so had to get ready in less than 5 minutes. Since this was a themed party,  I pulled out a vintage Cheongsam I’ve never worn (had it out for a photoshoot recently, the model wore it much better), vintage accessories, Jerome Dreyfuss clutch and Miss S Chinoiserie pumps, afforable and adorable, available here from Shoesales.com.au  I love them!

Have a gorgeous weekend everyone, I’m off to MSFW events!

Basil the Cat, Furry and Fat

by cecylia on August 24, 2011

(Outfit: Vintage Mam’Zelle dress and belt, Hiroko Koshino cape, Repetto shoes, vintage Nina Ricci bag, self-made earrings)

Went to a friend’s birthday drinks last weekend at 99 Problems, wore some pink tassel earrings I made (for a photoshoot which I’m dying to show you the photos, soon!) with a vintage Mam’Zelle dress (French label) that’s been waiting in my closet for the past decade. When I studied and worked full-time as a vet, I hardly had the chance to dress-up (except for the occasional wedding or birthday) so I’m so thankful that I can adopt my style philosophy of ‘every day is worth dressing up for’ nowadays (except when I’m working at the vets because you’ll be sure to be covered in pet hair, pee, poo and other gross things). So there, that’s the very unglamorous side of Cecylia. After I left 99 Problems, this gorgeous chinchilla flirted with me, majorly. Here’s another amusing tale for you, whenever someone’s not having the best day at work at the vets, I sing them this song I learnt at high School: ‘Basil the Cat, furry and fat. Basil is my big fat cat, he’s the coolest cat you’ll see. Struts around like he’s the king, thinks that he’s the master of me. Basil the Cat…’ And that usually brings a smile on their face :) So let me know if you’re ever not feeling the best and I’ll sing it for you.

So, on a serious note, here are some amazing fashion events you and I should not miss out on in the next few weeks:

1. Madam Virtue’s Sale at 5 Crossley St Melbourne (just off the Parliament end of Bourke St) - this is the vintage designer heaven in Melbourne, owned by my fashion mentors, where I bought my first (vintage) Chanel bag.

2. Habbot Studios Pop-Up Shop on level one of GPO- my favourite Melbourne shoe label by Annie Abbot. The ex-buyer of Net-a-Porter makes her divine shoes in Italy and she will be open for 6 weeks to sell her previous and new collections. I love her shoes so much that I will actually be helping out at her Pop up boutique next Thursday 1 September (10-3), so come and join me for some shoe shenanigans!

3. Stonnington Spring Fashion Forum and Parade next Wednesday (31 Aug) morning and Thursday (1 Sept) night respectively. 2 events I am not going to miss, looking forward to learn the ins and outs of running a fashion business by a panel of 4 including designer Arthur Galan and social media expert Kristen Boschma at Functions on Chapel at Prahran Town Hall 255A Chapel St, Prahran. I am also counting down the days until the fabulous runway party at Malven Town Hall on Thursday night. I have been offered a double pass to give away to my wonderful readers. All you need to do is to leave a comment saying that you could like to come and Like me on Facebook and be my Google Friend :) Hope you can come and join us for an amazing night!

I hope to see you there darlings, have a gorgeous week!
