Meeting Pauric Sweeney

by cecylia on March 28, 2010

I had the pleasure of meeting my favourite bag designer- Pauric Sweeney. Being such a dork, I carried my bag there to show him how much I loved his design and patent leather. Here I am standing outside his show room in Paris, my stomach is full of butterflies.

A most gorgeous pug called ‘Shakra’ with a diamante collar and larger-than-life personality greeted me. He made me miss my boys at home so much. We spent the next 10 minutes talking about our dogs and pulling out photos from our phones.

I wore my vintage gold ring everyday in Paris. I always pack a small satchel of jewelry and only end up wearing a few pieces. Wearing my Callia cream coat and dotted stockings from Alannah Hill. The buckled shoes are a copy of Opening Ceremony ones from Nine West. They’re tall but very comfortable.

Out of a living room full of bags, this grey leather bag was my favourite. It is actually a back pack as well. And yes I have ordered it for my boutique for next season. Cannot wait for its arrival!

Pauric Sweeney used to be a fashion designer. One day, a famous journalist told him at the end of one of his fashion shows that he should concentrate on his bags. He took her advice and the rest is history. Pauric used to be the accessories designer for Jil Sander. I love his bags. He’s pretty cool too. In Chloe dress and vintage nude scarf.

Have you heard of Antonia Goy

by cecylia on March 19, 2010

At MeMy at The Ritz, I met a lovely German designer by the name of Antonia Goy. She was so sweet and down-to-earth. Her garments were so masterly created, avant-garde but still very wearable pieces of art. I am now an avid fan of her designs. Even though we was lucky enough to get photos with her in her new range, I do not want to spoil it for anybody.  Expect plenty of black wool dresses and silk dresses in gorgeous symmetrical prints.

This was my favourite piece in the collection because it was absolutely freezing in Paris and this cape would have been divine to keep away the chill. I am wearing Nudie jeans and vintage booties. You can see a glimpse of the beautiful silk dress next to Antonia.

Antonia Goy was born in Germany where she graduated in Fashion Design in Parigi at Studio Bercôt and then she attended a Masters at the Kunsthhochschule Berlin-Weissensee in Berlin. She started her own label inn after receiving the CNMI Award given to her womanswear collection at Mittelmoda 2005.
She is based in Berlin. Here are some pictures from her previous collection. Pictures from Indeed Model Management website.

The only German I know is ‘guten tag’ but she spoke fluent English.

The designer flanked by models in her designs. I love the black structural apron dress on the right.

One of my favourite pieces from her AW10 collection is a  simple T-shirt dress encased in slashed drapery. She is one to watch!

Sunglasses at The Ritz

by cecylia on March 16, 2010

On my recent trip to Paris Fashion Week I visited the MeMy showroom at The Ritz. It is as gorgeous as they say- and certainly lived up to its name being one of the poshest hotel in the world.

I met countless fabulous designers and complimented them on their great efforts.  The following few posts will be about some of the European designers that I have not come across before in Australia and have become quite fond of a few.

I will start off with the sunglasses designers. I came across Illesteva sunnies which were quite cool.  This label is stocked at Opening Ceremony, a must-visit when I go to New York, in the near-future, I hope. They were made from resin in Italy and the shapes were quite funky. Don’t you love the tortoise shell ones?

The glasses were flimsily displayed on glass beakers. I tried a few pairs on.

The sales agent there talked like an American on fast forward. At least he was cute.

Next was Cutler and Gross, a much better known optical label. Cutler and Gross was founded in London 40 years ago by Graham Culter and Tony Gross, who turned mediocre and mundane medical necessities into fun and fabulous fashion accessories.  The eyewear label is founded by established opticians. You can get your eyes tested with them!

I tried a couple of pairs on and I think these larger frames fitted my broad face better.

Maybe the lighting was better, but I thought the Culter and Gross sunnies were better as well. These were a lovely shape.

Having a Dame Edna moment. Check out the gorgeous garments in the back ground! Honestly, when I first arrived at the show room, I didn’t know where to look.

Wearing a Miss Sixty woollen cardigan.

I think these were my favourites. Illesteva was funky and not well-known. Cutler and Gross is too well-known.  It was a difficult decision to make. In the end, I decided that my boutique does not need sunnies as yet. Do you prefer to buy sunglasses from an optical shop or from a fashion boutique?
