1st wedding of 2010

by cecylia on January 29, 2010

I attended a wedding in January where I played piano. I haven’t played at weddings for a long time, I remember 10 years ago, I attended 3 weddings in 6 months and played piano at each one of them. I dusted off some old music and rummaged through my books and finally found some decent wedding-worthy songs – namely Wagner’s Bridal March, Pachabel’s Canon and Bach’s Jesu, joy of man’s desiring. Man, the rust had contaminated my unpracticed fingers as well. But thankfully, I managed to wing it.

I usually always frock up to weddings, I would pull out a vintage dress I haven’t had the chance to wear yet and step into some stilettos, grab a clutch and my camera and off I go. But this time, I decided to honour my desire for high-waisted silk pants and threw on this ensemble:

You know how much I love antique doors. So I had to pose in front of this blue one. Everything I’m wearing is vintage aside from the Witchery heels. I’ve had this beaded bag and my sea shell necklace for almost a decade. I rarely use the bag because it is so well made and I would hate for any bead to leave it. But today seemed like a good day to air it out. I am in love with this double-strap leather belt I found from a thrift shop. It  adds structure to any outfit.

Here I am downing my very fast lunch- munching on a Chiko roll before taking my place at the piano.

After the wedding. I met up with some friends and had the most unusual pizza from World. It was served on a speech bubble-like cutting board and the pieces were cut vertically… There was only one slice with lamb, followed by pizza bread covered in carrots, potatoes and peas. It was also smothered in mint sauce. Not the best pizza I’ve ever had…

At least the street entertainment was better prepared. This lovely gentleman blew his pipes for hours. I heard him play ‘Amazing Grace’ before and after dinner. But where was his kilt?

I’ve got to tell you about the most unusual breakfast ever! I had 10 macaroons from La Tropezienne cafe for brekkie. It was a little bit of a sugar overload but my system loved it. Macaroons are the most decadent dessert. They have an amazing texture and I had 8 different flavours! I think my favourite was the strawberry, to my surprise. And even though the best macaroons are the ones I had in Paris, I would definitely recommend these La Tropezienne macaroons to anyone who likes them.

And another unusual event of the week: Theodore has discovered my fashion magazines… and he seems to like Angelina.

Is he winking?

Sydney Day Trip

by cecylia on November 22, 2009

Recently, I decided to spend a day-off in Sydney. I had to catch an early flight to get the most out of my day-trip. I visited my parents en route to the Melbourne airport. My parents have a gorgeous Ragdoll cross Devon Rex called Hiro. Hiro is even more gorgeous ‘in person’. He is a real poser for photographs.

Here is a photo of me taken in the dark- wearing very comfortable gear. I am in a vintage beige jumpsuit, vintage gold chain detail belt, Duchess yellow cotton cardi, Comme des Garcons for Repetto flats and blue patent Pauric Sweeney bag.

I started my (very early) day with a chocolate sponge cake and a large cup of Cappacino. I don’t usually drink coffee, as I am more of a tea person but my early flight required me to be caffeinated for the day. I have a major sweet tooth, so this is my ideal breakfast menu. Life is too short to leave dessert until last.

Sydney has many European influenced architecture, which I adore. I was walking with an outstretched neck to view the wonderful overhead sights. Isn’t this clock cute (and unusual)?

Walking along Oxford St in Darlinghurst, I came across this cute and edgy boutique called Desordre. They stocked Aje ( a new favourite Australian designer of mine) and vintage gems. I saw the shop from afar and hurried towards it, only to be disappointed by the fact that it was not open even though it was now 11 am in the morning.

Walking along Oxford St, I saw an interesting shop-front. This is pretty cool, as the shop owner decorated their blank canvas with colourful paintings of animals (and a cockroach…) I like the chihuahua the best. I wish I could have brought Theodore along…

Alice McCall

Alice McCall

I stopped by a cute book store  called Ariel Booksellers and stopped there for a quick read. To my surprise, and I could not believe how blessed I was, I met Alice McCall! I was sitting down reading the recently launched MMM (Maison Martin Margiela) book, when I suddenly saw a slender figure, very well-dressed, walked past me. I gathered up my courage and spoke to her. I really wish I had asked her where her shoes are from, whether or not they were from her new range. She looks even prettier in real life than I had seen previously on magazines. She was so sweet and polite.

After Alice left, another girl walked past whose style I liked. I love her vintage mix of classic statement pieces. Not many people can pull off those black ankle socks!

So what did I buy whilst in Sydney? I did a lot of window shopping, but in the end I got a beautiful gold fringe scarf and a pair of funky black and white print leggings. I will share the photos with you in another post. I got back to Melbourne by 7pm. It was a great day. Looking forward to the next day-trip in Sydney. Hopefully I will bump into Alice McCall again and take more street-chic photos. I may take my SLR along next time…
