Just when I thought I found my favourite frock from Soon Maternity, “Valentina” rears its beautiful head. A chic LBD that accommodates a growing belly but will equally flatter when bub is out is just sheer genius. I’m seriously considering wearing it to the hospital when bub comes!
An interesting piece of advice my midwife gave me before my first child was born is to wear something empowering to give birth in. Red is her favourite colour so a red frock made her feel both beautiful and more in control during labour.
Me on the other hand, wore an old grey wool dress which was warm, comfortable and I didn’t mind getting dirty in. It wasn’t the dress that strengthened me, what got me through labour the first time was deep breathing, many prayers, hubby’s extensive back massage and this Bible verse.
Turns out that you actually change into a hospital gown before the baby comes, so your clothes are unlikely to get dirty. I’d love to wear this dress on the big day, it’s simply divine. If the hospital staff ask why I’m so dressed up, I’ll tell them: “It’s my daughter’s birthday-a great reason to celebrate, and a great reason to dress up!”
But if I chicken out, and opt back into my trusty old grey wool dress (for consistencies’ sake… after all, I’m seeing the same obstetrician and going to the same hospital this second time round) I’ll be sure to pack the dress in my hospital bag. I’ll enjoy it even more after pregnancy and no doubt it’ll make a cute family photo!
