Following on from last week’s interview with Jess (What Would Karl Do), the next fashionista on my list I couldn’t wait to interview is my beautiful blogger friend Michelle (Michelle’s Style Files). We took some stylish yet silly shots last year together [HERE] if you need a memory rejog. I promise the pics will make you smile :) She gave birth to her baby boy earlier in the year. I recall being wowed by her chic pregnancy style. I used to think equate maternity with frumpy, but Michelle completely proved that stereotype wrong.

On maternity style:
“For me it was during summer so a striped tank dress and a black tank dress (Soon Maternity) were my absolute staples! You could layer them or just wear them as is and still look presentable AND they show off the bump beautifully. Soon Maternity have 3/4 sleeve and long sleeve versions of their tank dresses which would be perfect for this cold weather. I also splashed out on a pair of Mavi black maternity jeans– they got a flogging. And again they are a really versatile piece that can be dressed up or down. Fillyboo Maternity also sent me some really fun pieces. They have more bohemian edgier feel which were really different from your ‘average’ maternity gear. And make the most of wearing heels while preggers!!! Once bub arrives they aren’t so much an option any more! ”
On Diet:
“I was incredibly sick during my first trimester I may as well have been called the amazing vomit girl! As such, food was the last thing on my mind. I remember loving iced water in my third trimester and I think there as a salt and vinegar chips phase in there too.”
On Exercise:
“I continued cycling to and from work (10km) every day until 34 week pregnant, but I quit the gym as soon as morning sickness kicked in at about 6 weeks, and from about 20 weeks walking wasn’t an option due to pelvic girdle pain. Massage was essential. I had so much pelvis pain from the half way mark. Winsome at Armadale Remedial Massage has a bed with a hole in it for your tummy which was brilliant! I highly recommend it.’
Thanks so much Michelle for sharing with us your favourite maternity labels and styles. I completely agree about heels, although I’m in so much ignorant bliss about motherhood that I hope I can wear them then too… we’ll see about that. Cycling 10 km a day? I feel so guilty for not having exercised for so long. Hopefully when my vet work quietens down, I can get back into jogging again. In the meantime, pass me that salt and vinegar chip!
