I was stoked to meet up with one of the most talented designers I’ve ever encountered: Yeojin Bae, at her show room in the Western. What a view! Yeojin had just flown up from Melbourne to Sydney this morning and is getting excited about her show the next day, as well as her birthday, on the same day! Her show was sponsored by MYER, who is not unfamiliar with her immense talent. Yeojin’s garments look just as good on the racks as they do on the body. Here is the talented designer, in one of her best-seller styles and beloved Marc Jacobs sandals.
Here we are: Dajana, Yeojin’s gorgeous Milanese sales agent, in the designer’s tailored suiting, and I’m holding silk flower brooches from Yeojin’s SS11/12 collection. The designer plans to display these flowers on her blouses and dresses to produce that opulent flair. I thought the flowers would look cute as a bikini.
Seated front-row at Yeojin’s show was Ruby Rose. It is not difficult to recognise her with her cropped jet-black hair and arm tattoos. She is sporting Karla Spetic’s printed silk pants. There are not many fashionistas who can pull off this look!
Pin-tucking was a feature on most of Yeojin’s dresses. This is a very difficult technique which Yeojin has mastered. She loves a challenge, she says. The day before the show I told Yeojin that this peach dress is my favourite in the collection, and asked her about the shortened hem at the front of the dress, as I had seen a similar feature on the dresses of the Felder Felder sisters. She informed me that legs actually appear slimmer and longer when the hem is slightly shortened at the front and the diagonal line flatters the thighs. Her answer reminded me once again that she is a grand madame of tailoring, having worked for years with SATCH.
I am loving this all-over floral look with her silk blouse and skirt. Dress the shirt down with jeans or the skirt with a grey top or brave all the attention in the ‘dress’ combination.
This picture doesn’t do the outfit justice, but I want you to focus on the pink skirt. It is stiff silk so the shape holds and won’t blow precariously in the wind. I cannot wait to team mine with a denim shirt or a little cable-knit. These are my 3 favourite looks from Yeojin. Our boutique will also be stocking many other styles. Don’t you worry, I will be raving on about her collection when it arrives at our boutique.
Yeojin made me take a chocolate bar when I left her show room, so here I am with the wrapper hidden in my left hand and my mouth is actually full of cocoa and peanuts.
Yeojin is one of these few designers who knows what ladies like to wear, what flatters them and can deliver. Her French influence (her husband is French and is a musicproducer) and exquisite tailoring shapes her to be one of the most saught-after designers of our time. Her pieces are worn by actresses for the red carpet, professional women for work, ladies of leisure for lunch and for the social butterflies for the Races, parties and weddings alike.
Thank you so much Yeojin Bae for allowing me to preview your amazing collection before your show. I hope you had a fabulous celebration for your birthday and your spectacular show.
I’m wearing Spijkers en Spijkers silk top and wool shorts, Roksanda Ilincic silk jacket, hubby’s scarf, necklace I made, Viktor & Rolf silk bracelet, Pinkie the snail ring, YSL pumps and Pauric Sweeney bag.
Great post Cecylia. Those cocoa & peanuts sounds dee-lish! xx
