Marvelous Melissas: Score a $100 Melissa Voucher!

by cecylia on November 4, 2011

Hello everyone! Welcome to my 500th blog post! Have I got a lovely surprise for you! :)

I have been a Melissa fan since I was a little girl! Who can forget their childhood memories of wearing colourful jelly shoes? I remember running through the water, the rain, the beach with them, just because I could! Now that I’m a big girl now, I still adore them!

Here I am wearing my favourite Melissas-  the Patchuli wedges, in Mauve, with a vintage jumper, brooch, sunnies, scarf and bag and my beloved Yeojin Bae silk skirt.

My Patchulis also come in 5 other delicious colours, see here! I was drawn to the delicate ankle strap, the peep-toe and the line down the heel, which is reminiscent of the lines running up the back of stockings in the 50s, utterly sexy. Melissas are super comfy, easy to care for, we can wear them in the rain and they have that delicious bubblegum smell. Theodore likes them too :)

If you are also a Melissa fan, (who isn’t?) then you’re in luck, because I am so happy to announce that Melissa will be giving away a $100 voucher for one of Cecylia.com’s loyal readers to spend on their online store here. Thank you so much Melissa for your kind generosity! Ahh so many styles and colours to choose from, if you get stuck, feel free to contact me. :)

All you need to do to be in the draw to be the winner is to follow me on Google, Facebook, Twitter or Bloglovin’, AND also like Melissa‘s Facebook page, and leave a comment . Too easy! The winner will be announced next Friday 11th November. Happy winning!

100 Issues of Fashion Journal

by cecylia on December 6, 2010

Right after I got back from Canberra I squeezed into a vintage jumpsuit I got from the Canberra vintage fair, sans make-up, and dashed off to the Fashion Journal Party to celebrate the launch of their 100th issue. It was an unbelievable party. Two levels of fashionistas mingling under the one roof, along with Nandos girls serving chicken in red jumpsuits.

This colourful backdrop welcomed me warmly and it somehow reminded me of the Romance was Born exhibition with Kate Rhodes.

I bumped into Cheryl from BusinessChic, also in vintage, and Sarah, from Style Melbourne.

It’s always so much fun bumping into the stunning stylist, Micah, because she rocks it so well on the dance floor and because she wears jumpsuits too! Micah’s white wedges are from Zomp. The thing about Micah is that she doesn’t realize just how pretty she is…which is why she is even more attractive.

With Miss Ghost and Max from Fallen Woman, sporting the Melbourne Noir Looks. Another post on Miss Ghost can be found here. Her marron pumps are the same colour as my Sonia Rykiels ones!

I met this good-looking boy with a photographic hobby, also an architecture student. I actually wanted to study architecture at uni but a friend who was studying it at the time talked me out of it. Yeah you know who you are =P

It was awesome to see the talented jewellery designer Yamilla Guedez (left-most), who also owns a beautiful boutique just off High St Armadale.

I bumped into one of Theodore’s girlfriends Anna, a legal presentative from Kookai. She fell in love with my canine son at the Damselfly party. I love her dress, she’s got to be the most stylish young lawyer out there!

(vintage jumpsuit, belt and shoes; Jerome Dreyfuss clutch, Mawi ring)

And no party is complete without my gorgeous blogger friend and fellow-stylist Jess D, in the most amazing Asos lace shirt. She can pull anything off with style and aplomb.

Thanks Fashion Journal for having me. The party had everything-  great music (just a little on the loud side..maybe I’m getting old), great food, great drinks and a great crowd. I just wish I could have squeezed my way to the dance crowd…

Vicki’s Wedding

by cecylia on November 28, 2009

1 Corinthians 13

Reading 1 Corinthians 13

On November 7th, I attended a good friend’s wedding. Vicki and I grew up together and known each other since we were teenagers. She is a statuesque beauty and of course, looked absolutely stunning on her wedding day. I was invited to read the scriptures on at her wedding ceremony. ‘Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self-seeking…’ in Chinese. Thank God I did not fall flat on my face as I walked up to the podium and thankfully did not forget my limited Mandarin.

Vicki’s dress was tailor-made for her. It was actually made from 2 dresses. She chose the bodice from one gown and the other half from another and the clever seamstresses joined them together. This photo doesn’t really do her justice. She has the best figure an Asian girl could dream of and I am not kidding.

Not just pretty faces

Our good friends (also sisters) were the bridesmaids, dressed in Vicki’s favourite colour. They sang a lovely song for the bride and groom.

I love birds!

Her reception was at the Manningham art gallery. I could not resist having photos with the fruit of some local talent. You are probably wondering what I am wearing- beige one-shoudler Country Road dress. Vintage gold leaf and gold multi-strand beaded necklaces, vintage Brazilian 3 tone sandals in patent leather, vintage red velvet clutch and Pinkie!

I must tell you a little testimony about Pinkie. In the early hours of the next morning, I got home and realized that Pinkie was not on my finger nor in my clutch (where she rested whilst I danced my heels off). I was devastated to lose my beloved cocktail snail ring! My first reaction was to ask God for mercy- to help me overcome my sadness over the loss of a little ring. To my surprise, God not only filled my heart with joy so I could sleep soundly that night, He restored Pinkie to me the next day! One of Vicki’s groomsmen found Pinkie near our table and gave it to her. I was overjoyed for the return of my ‘prodigal’ ring. Praise God!

I love these porcelain statues and the cute dog paintings. The little porcelain trinkets are actually just placed in the silver bowls, they are not stuck together. What a feast for our eyes!

This young girl reminds me of the eponymous Skipping Girl (vinegar company). Look! She’s wearing Roman sandals!

Kimmy and I

I had to post this photo of Kimmy and I. I adore her white chiffon tunic dress. Simple and elegant.

Mommy and I

Mommy and I

And here is the lady who started my affair with fashion and all things arty and nice- my Mom. She cultivated my love of art from a tender age. Mom and I used to do my art assignments together in primary school.  She used to ride the bicycle with me sitting on the back to school every day ( since I can’t ride a bike). Too bad I never inherited my mom’s beauty genes (she was ravishing when she was young), but I thank God that I have such an awesome Mom.

Vicki fed us lobsters along with a 6 course seafood banquet. She arrived at her wedding in a black stretch Hummer and left in a white one. It sure was a wedding to be remembered. Many wishes of joy, love and peace to the newly weds. ‘Love never fails’
