Fashion Aid Gala

by cecylia on October 1, 2010

About 3 months ago we bought tickets to the most-anticipated fashion event of the year. We got a table of 10 and counted the days to the Fashion Aid Gala.

Up until a week before hand I still didn’t know what I was going to wear…When the new Alldressedup pieces came in, my heart nearly skipped a beat when I saw the beautiful purple silk halter dress. But I knew I woudn’t be able to pull it off. Just as well, one of our VIP customers came and bought the dress I adore and wore it to the Gala with us!

Lisha: Alldressedup silk dress, House of Harlow ring, Tony Bianco hels

I knew everyone would be wearing dresses (ladies, that is), so it became obvious that I just had to wear my vintage fuschia jumpsuit. I got it from Retro Star a year ago and never had a chance to wear it! So I debuted it with vintage YSL gold earrings, Alldressedup bow belt, my favourite Aris Geldis Paris bracelet and super tall but super-comfortable Lanvin pumps from Christine. I cannot believe how comfortable my outfit was as I danced all night and ate almost 4 courses (I ate 2 mains!). Each course was designed by the head chef of great restaurants- think The Press Club, Maha and The Lanvin heels proved to be a success, they lasted all night and didn’t cause my feet any grief.

Chian, my husband is wearing one of Roger’s creations from his label THYVANE as his tie and handkerchief.

I worked as a vet in the morning, then at the boutique and after my hair-curling appointment, I only had 10 minutes to get ready so after I finally settled with these accessories, being completely absent-minded, I left the boutique without my tickets and my camera and forgot to put makeup on. So all the photos are curtesy of Jess’ camera! Merci beaucoup ma cherie!

The lid wasn’t locked! Was so tempted to play!

What has been the biggest event you’ve attended this year?

How do you feel about jumpsuits?

Made in Melbourne

by cecylia on September 10, 2010

Another event I attended at MSFW was ‘Made in Melbourne.’

I wore a Karla Spetic 3 twist dress at work during the day and didn’t have time to go back home to get changed into ‘cocktail’ so I decided to buy a frock from an Aussie designer from the boutique. It was either the black Innocence dress by Gail Sorronda or the white Jules dress by Karla Spetic…guess which one I picked?

I picked the black dress because the event was ‘Made in Melbourne’ and we’re known for our noir style.

The venue was at The Trust again, I wore vintage YSL necklace and belt; Aris Geldis Paris bracelet, Repetto booties and vintage Tippy clutch.

The event was to celebrate Melbourne designers whose garments are made in Melbourne. The designers on show included Caro, Mina & Katusha, Borsha, Lisa Taranto, NeoDia, Mario Liese and Silk & Ink. The most unusual look was from Borsha whose use of vintage fabrics looked more like material scrap-booking. The model is stunning though.

The best label was NeoDia, recent RMIT graduates Gavin Lowes and Becky Chua, whose sharp tailoring and architectural designs hit all the right notes and is going to go far.

This model is one to watch, the beautiful Jessica Rose, she will be one of our models for our boutique’s runway party, more on that later =)

The photo is a little blurry but she looks a little like Catherine McNeil here. So pretty and has such a strong walk. Really looking forward to working with her soon!

Since we’re talking about budding designers and models, I must tell you about the Fashion Open Day at Kangan Institute on 15th September 6pm. If you want to be a stylist, fashion designer or milliner- head down there for a great night!

Aside from seeing Jessica Rose and NeoDia’s designs, the real highlight of the night was meeting Yeojin Bae, my favourite Australian designer whose garments are unfortunately not stocked in our boutique. She is even prettier in real life. Told her about my favourite looks from her runway and later on wished I’d told her how good her haircut looked. She told me that she used to design for SABA, that explains how she got her fine tailoring down pat. Yeojin is good friends from Gail Sorronda!

Ah, finally the end of MSFW. I haven’t had dinner at home for over a week and my house is a mess. I wrote all these posts after midnight, when my brain is no longer functioning optimally and the only substances that keep me going are chocolate and chips- hmmm junk food…

Realway vs Runway

by cecylia on September 7, 2010

On Wednesday night we made an appearance at the Designer series Runway 2 of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. My girlfriends and I dressed up for the occasion and just to be rebels we wore mostly international labels.

From left: Georgie, who should be a model, is just stunning;  Jess, of whatwouldkarldo.com, the chicest stylist/blogger I know; me, I tried to support as many designers we stock as possible…

Georgie: Zara jacket, Kookai top, Chanel necklace, Chloe python Paraty bag and Alexander McQueen booties

Jess: Zara jacket, Karl Who T shirt, Felder Felder cross studded skirt, Georgina Goodman booties, Chanel bag, bowler hat

Me: Karla Spetic blouse, Felder Felder ring skirt, Gail Sorronda dinner jacket, Lanvin pumps, Marc Jacobs bow bag, vintage pearl necklace. Detailed photo of Aris Geldis Paris bracelet I wore below:

I must admit, we are picky when it comes to fashion shows. Georgie critiqued the models, Jess critiqued the styling and I critiqued the designs. We asked: why were there so many bridal dresses for a runway show? Why did so many Aussie designers copy Lanvin? Why couldn’t so many models walk properly? Is it because they wore cheap shoes like Betts, Wittner, Aldo and RMK? And what about Lucy McIntosh’s (The Face of MSFW) alarmingly big grin….she is extraordinarily gorgeous, nevertheless

This coral suit from Yeojin Bae was my favourite look of the night- it sums up femininity and strength with one bright hue. And the tailoring is impeccable. It’s no wonder her garments are stocked all over the globe in the finest stores.

The one show we all enjoyed was Christine’s (where I got my Lanvin and Sonia Rykiel pumps from), we loved all the floral printes by Etro and Lanvin accessories. The looks were romantic, summery and lady-like Bohemian. Although Christine is not a designer but she is one fabulous buyer. And my mentor, she just doesn’t now it yet =)

These lace ears are stunning but I don’t have a spare $500…

Also the green florette dress by Yeo jin Bae was a show-stopper. Definitely the best look to end her runway series with. I like Aussie designers who don’t think like a typical Aussie designer- like Gail Sorronda and Karla Spetic. They’re on a league of their own and dance to the beat of their own drums.

Alice Burdeu in the floral dress. I was on Team Alice the whole season for Australia’s Next Top Model (when I used to have time to watch TV).

Overall it was still a great night, I met many beautiful bloggers such as Sarah from Sarah Style Emporium, LeeYong from Style Wilderness, Catherine from Whattowear, Phoebe aka Lady Melbourne, Sam from Fashion Recruit, Sarah from Style Melbourne, Cheryl of Busichic and the gorgeous Alisha from Sea of Ghosts.  Of course, Phoebe and Cheryl are also part of the Melbourne Street Fashion team.

Style Wilderness (with the funkiest earrings), Lady Melbourne

Sea of Ghosts, she’s also a jewellery designer… and a Daisy Lowe-look-alike in this photo. Adore her style. She has inspired me to dig out my long dresses again.

The beautiful Sam from Fashion Recruit, designer of Bento!

My sweet sweet friend Cheryl of Busichic, and the most outgoing fashionista I’ve ever met – she seems to know everyone who is anyone!

The night was fun but it is nothing compared with what I’m about to witness in Milan and Paris in September. So stayed tuned for some real fashion. And oh, I may meet up with Gail Sorronda in Milan!

The Dress That Was

by cecylia on September 6, 2010

A month ago we ordered one of the last velvet ‘Kate’ dresses from Karla Spetic. The 3 knot dress is a signature piece from her collection, you may have seen the ‘Fontaine’ dress from her previous collection, they all have 3 knots but they are placed differently each season. The velvet dress is a stunner and I was hoping to buy it for myself. But a beautiful lady came and whisked it away after the dress had not even landed in the shop for 24 hours. Same with the Aris Geldis Paris necklace, how huge are the Swarovski crystals?. Both beauties gone…

So we replaced the dress with another Karla creation- the 2 tone grey Bree dress.

Left: Alldressedup silk singlet and cotteon shorts, Karla Spetic silk printed jacket

Right: Alldressedup silk blouse with Spijkers en Spijkers skirt; Felder Felder spike belt.

Which outfit is your favourite?
