Lately, there’s a song on the radio that’s been bugging me. The chorus sings ‘unconditional love’ repeatedly but emphasises the wrong syllable so it sounds like ‘un-con-di-SHAAAA-nal’. Images of my ex-music-theory teacher and the lessons on appropriate syllable stress comes to haunt me. But that’s exactly how the word ‘unconditional’ stuck.
Since I’m a new parent, I’ve been experiencing this concept of ‘unconditional love’. It’s loving someone even if they don’t deserve it. It’s loving them regardless of what they think, say or do. It’s the love that God has for us God loves us despite the fact that we don’t love Him.
We see it also in parental love. No matter what happens to a child, what they do and what they accomplish, parents should always love them. Unconditionally. My husband and I have been blessed with such parents.
I’ve also been thinking about our 3 months old baby. Of course it’s easy to love him when everything he does is cute – but we’ll also strive to love him regardless of what he does, just because he’s our son.
And since it’s Valentine’s Day, I can’t not think about my hubby. I’ve always called him ‘the best husband in the world’ (for me). It’s not difficult to love, honour and respect a guy who absolutely adores you, always has your best interests at heart and is ever so attentive to your needs. That’s probably why we’ve never argued these 11 years. However, this Valentine’s Day, I want to give him something even more special, something I’ve actually already professed in our wedding vows 6 years ago, something priceless: my unconditional love. No matter what happens in the future, I’ll always love him. Unconditionally.
Since Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to express your love to your special one with gifts and sentiments, why not step up a notch and tell them that you love them? Unconditionally.

这个概念。就是即使他们不值得你的爱，你还爱他们。不管他们说什么做什么，还爱他们。这是神对我们的） 。神爱我们，虽然我们不爱他。他爱我们，即使我们不值得他的爱。他爱我们，因为他就是爱。
父母之爱也这样。不管孩子怎么样，他们长大做什么，父母会永远爱他们。无条件地爱他们。我和我的丈夫因为有这样的父母非常感恩。我也想起我们的3个月大的婴儿。他所做的一切都那么可爱，因此爱他并不难。但我希望，我们会象我们的父母，继续无条件地爱他，不管他以后长大怎样。
既然今天是情人节，我不能不谈起我的丈夫。我一直称他为“世界上（对我）最好的丈夫” 。尊重他，爱他并不难，因为他同样地爱护我。这可能就是为什么我们这11年从来没有吵过。然而，这个情人节，我想给他一件更特别的，价值连城的礼物。其实6年前我在我们的婚礼上就已经誓言要给他的：无条件的爱。不管在未来会发生什么，他会变得怎么样，我都会永远爱他。就因为他是我的丈夫。
既然情人节是为了你能用礼物和情感最好得来表达你对你心上人的爱，为什么不再上一层，告诉他们你无条件地爱他们吗？[/spoiler]

thank you so much Jo! Indeed, it’s no easy feat to love someone unconditionally, but when we have been loved in this way by our parents, and by God, then their love can inspire us to do the same :) the view from the Park Hyatt is pretty breathtaking, wish I could wake up every morning to it…
