Last Friday I had the utmost pleasure of styling Toni & Guy’s 50th Anniversary Showcase at Melbourne Central. The internationally-renowned hair salon is now half a century old, though it is still as youthful, vibrant and energetic as its inception in the swinging 60s. What an honour it was to work with them on this milestone. Since I spent the entire day backstage, here are some behind-the-scenes snaps to show you how the hair, make up and styling all came together. Taken at the Melbourne Central Toni & Guy salon:
Nicole from Napoleon Perdis ready to transform a model’s face.
A model wearing Sonya Kraan jacket and Danielle Caputi skirt, all from Gusto & Elan
What to wear…
Hairstylist Marie working her magic on a model’s tresses, who is wearing a Sol dress from Gusto & Elan.
Closeup of a pretty face and an interesting print: dress and skirt from Fame Agenda.
Styling on this scale is a completely different ball game. There are a number of challenges associated with 30 models that don’t arise when you’re only styling one or two: being able to meet a multi-genred brief, catering to different skin tones and body shapes, staying on top of coordinating clothing to match hair and makeup, or even the challenge of carrying several ’body bags’ full of clothes around town whilst not attracting suspicious police…. A heart-felt thank you to my amazing assistant Rachel, collaborating designers and boutiques Sonya Kraan, Karen Millen, Gusto & Elan and Fame Agenda.
Happy anniversary Toni & Guy. You don’t look your age at all!
