Some of my fondest memories during my teenage years were visiting garage sales with my folks. We would leave no stone unturned to discover random bargains that we couldn’t leave without, and bartering was half of the fun! It was such an adrenaline rush that it replaced our caffeine fix on Saturday mornings. The night before, we would look up the locations of the garage sales listed at the back of our local newspaper in our Melway to map out the most efficient route. In the morning, we would also remember to bring all the loose change. Going to garage sales almost became our family tradition!
It’s thanks to years of visiting garage sales that I developed my unique sense of style and a penchant for buying as much as I can second hand. To this day, my Mom still occasionally scouts garage sales for treasures. Every time she surprises me with a little vintage number, I ask her, “Where did you get this?” She always replies, with a sparkle in her eye,”Garage sale!”

I almost always seem to have something on during this weekend every year, I’ve never yet had the chance to go. I’d love to this year but sadly we are again busy. One year I’ll do it! :)
