Yesterday I spent an entire afternoon reconnecting with nature at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show. I don’t think I’ve ever been surrounded by so many beautiful blooms, well-watered plants and people with exceptionally green thumbs. Can one learn gardening via osmosis?
There were hundreds of garden exhibitors to see and a multitude of fantastical creations to appreciate. It wasn’t difficult to clock 10,000 steps as I meandered around the Royal Exhibition Building. One of the highlights of the afternoon was seeing a garden created entirely from edible plants and herbs. Now that’s the kind of backyard I want! Thanks to the stunning floral arrangements and meticulously landscaped gardens, I couldn’t stop snapping away!
The exhibition that took my breath away (the most, yes I was practically hyperventilating when I saw it) was the collaboration between Melbourne florists Fleur & Flowers Vasette‘s display of brilliant orchids. It was the bright blue bunch that caught my eye first. How did they get the perspex vase and the orchids to match exactly?
Orchids are certainly having a moment in fashion right now, check out this stunning silk Piers Atkinson headband which will be all the rage around racing season. So modern and moving, the display reminded me of Fendi’s AW14 collection whereby 13 out of 50 looks featured white Moth orchids perfectly pinned to the left lapels of fur jacket. If Ralph Waldo Emerson said that “the earth laughs in flowers”. then Fleur and Flowers & Vasette sure chuckle in orchids!
The perennial Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show runs this entire weekend at the Royal Exhibition Building from 9 am to 5pm. Enjoy exquisite displays, endless inspirations and a Great Hall of Flowers! Have a delightful weekend lovelies!
Oh that floral display is so pretty! That would be a lovely way to spend the day, looking at all the beautiful flowers.
