I can’t believe how quickly Christmas has come around this year. I’ve never been so ill-prepared.
In Christmases of yesteryear, I’d have Christmas cards written, gifts wrapped, the tree up, Christmas menus prepared and even my outfits planned for Christmas parties by the end of November.
But this year, I’ve left everything until the very last minute. I only just made the wreath and the dessert last night, still deciding on the menu for our Christmas lunch and have only just wrapped the presents. And there is no Christmas tree. I threw out the enormous plastic shrubbery just before our move.
They say that becoming a parent is supposed to make you more decisive, determined and good with dead-lines – but throw in a spoonful of sleep deprivation, house renos, vetting, and a sick pet, and you end up with a recipe for flying time and missing days…
Despite all of that, this Christmas won’t be any less meaningful than the others. Sometimes we can get so engrossed with the decorations, the festivities, the gifts and the feasts, that we forget what Christmas is really all about. I was recently reminded that our loved ones’ presence is far more important than their presents on Christmas Day. That’s because one very special member of our family was almost not going to make it for Christmas this year: Theodore.
I took him to hospital a few days ago as he wasn’t eating or drinking and looking completely listless – literally as sick as a dog. It turns out he suffered from unexpected acute kidney failure! His numbers were off the charts in a very bad way, but thanks to the incredible care and expertise of my colleagues at both Stud Park and Glen Eira Greencross Vet Clinics, Theodore has made a stunning recovery so he’s now out of the woods and into our arms for Christmas!
I hope you’ve got some amazing things planned to celebrate Jesus’ birthday, but more importantly, I hope you have some amazing people to celebrate with. See you in the new year! xx
Aww poor Theo! I saw on instagram he’d been unwell :( So good that he’s happy and healthy and back home with you for Christmas! Must have been really scary finding out he was so unwell!
I hope you’ve had a magical Christmas – like you said it’s all about the people (and pets!) rather than the decorations or perfectly wrapped gifts. Hope your Christmas was full of cuddles, naps and lots of licks for furry little Theo!
(On a completely frivolous note, I love pink on you! And you’re handing sleep deprivation like a champ! We are just coming out of the 6 month sleep regression…oh my goodness that was a toughie! I think we are getting better though? Maybe? I hope!)
Hi Mica, lol I never thought that I could survive on so little sleep, but perhaps my new year’s resolution is to sleep more? :D Aww sleep regression sucks, but at least it’s temporary and something that bubs grow out of. I hope you’re having a restful and relaxing time during these holidays. xx
Cecylia, I have always had a soft spot for darling Theodore so was quite upset to hear of his kidney failure. We love our Scruffy like family. It really affects you when there is something wrong with them. It’s such a relief he is OK.
Blessings to you, hubby and your little one.

Thank you so much Suzi for your kind words. Yeah it’s so easy for pets to work their way into our hearts. Theodore is like our child so we were so distraught to learn that he was ill and so thankful that he’s making recovery. Wishing you a gorgeous Christmas and New Year!
Hi Cece
