So I revealed in this post that I’m finally doing something about my crooked smile. In fact, I’ll let you in on a secret, it’s taken almost a decade and a very encouraging husband for me to have the confidence to smile in front of the camera. When I was a teen, I had braces. But as I used to play the French horn, the metal brackets would dig into my gums causing ulcers so I had to get them off prematurely. My teeth were OK, I could grin and bear it. But when I hit 20, my wisdom teeth shot up and even though they were soon removed, they’d managed to crowd the rest of my teeth even further. I was so ashamed of my crooked teeth I never used to smile in photos. I thought about getting braces again since I no longer play the French horn, but the thought of having visible metal tracks put me off.
It wasn’t until I’d met Jam Baylon, stylist extraordinaire, and Carly, the area manager of the vet practices that I work for, that I considered Invisalign. Having completely transformed their lives and smiles, they recommended this more flexible orthodontic solution to me. There are no ‘train tracks’, the clear aligners are barely visible, and after consulting a few dentist friends, Invisalign seemed to be the best orthodontic treatment for my lifestyle.
Next I needed to find the right orthodontist. I’d first heard about Smile Solutions through Victoria Pajouhesh, the founder of Cupp Australia. Both Cupp and Smile Solutions are situated in the majestic Manchester Unity Building on the corner of Collins and Swanston Streets. Just as its name suggests, Smile Solutions has been providing solutions to customers’ smiles for over 20 years. Thanks to their unparalleled customer service, dedication to excellent client-communication, and state-of-the-art technology, Smile Solutions has won countless business awards. Earlier this year, it won the 2014 Victorian Business of the Year Award. Plus, they have a really cute pooch called Humphrey who loves to play soccer.
As you know, I’m particularly finicky when it comes to customer service. But I’ve been on the phone to Smile Solutions staff a number of times now, and each time I’m blown away by their thoughtfulness, courteousness and gentleness. It may be your very first inquiry, yet you are treated like a VIP. They remember your name, your needs, and are super apologetic for making you wait on hold for 5 seconds. I was so impressed with their customer service, Smile Solutions also won me over.
I have been in for my initial complimentary consultation with Dr David Austin already, and was relieved to hear that I’m a suitable candidate for the Invisalign treatment. I also had the chance to meet Humphrey, this handsome pooch who loves nothing more than to play soccer with you. 2 weeks ago I went to have my teeth scanned so Dr. Austin can plan my ortho treatment. Tomorrow I’ll be able to see the entire process digitally! I’ll let you know it goes!

This Karen Millen dress is amazing on you!! Anyway, it is so cool you played french horn. I never tried it but there was one in my band and it looks so nice and intricate. I was a clarinet girl myself and had braces. The reed would somehow get caught and just having the pressure against my top teeth hurt so much whenever I got my braces tightened. I remember having to smile super wide so that my brackets didn’t scratch my lips. Now I still have that wide toothed smile, like a little kid showing all her teeth. I wish you the very best with invisalign and look forward to seeing a more confident toothy you :-D
Btw, I’m visiting you from a comment you had left on my blog and I love your design! I am unveiling a new one myself soon with a new blog address. Just have to edit the tags and categories since I’m leaving bloodspot… so any day now… :)
I think you have a beautiful smile! – And you’re wearing a beautiful dress too! :)
I had to have braces when I was younger, ugh not fun. I had them taken off early too, so my teeth still aren’t perfect. I’m happy though…and have a fear of dentists after a horrible wisdom tooth experience…so I’ll leave my teeth as is! haha
Hope you get the results you want from the process!
Yeah many people had braces when they were young, how come you had them taken off early? I didn’t notice anything about your teeth- they seem perfect!
I’ve never noticed anything ‘off’ about your smile–you have a beautiful smile already. However, it’s really cool that you can get orthodontic treatments that are virtually invisible these days. :)
But anyway, I just wanted to comment that your dress is absolutely stunning. Wow, that beading.
thank you so much Wendy! Your words means so much. Yeah I’m excited about the treatment. I’ll let you know how I go!
Lovely dress!Humprey ought to have a kick off with Charlotte the gorgeous soccer loving black labrador!
