According to my young friends (I call them Gen Zeds, aka teenagers), it’s formal season. And apparently there are two camps. Some girls want long gowns, whilst others are sporting uber-mini-dresses that double as tight tops. I vote for long, because you have more occasions to wear cocktail numbers than something more fairytale-like. We photographed this Leila dress a little while back and it’s quite ironic that I’m showing you this ice blue dress now in the icy cold weather. Leiela is the brainchild of Lucy Laurita, who named her label after the Italian translation of “There she is” (Lei e la). She is the go-to designer for formal- and bridal-wear for ladies whose signature look is defined by grace and elegance. Defying trends, embracing shape and displaying expert craftsmanship, I wish I knew about Leiela during my teenage formal-going years.

That is such a beautiful dress! The embelishment is so pretty and that cuff is perfect with it :)
My formal dress was blue, unsurprisingly! I loved it! It had a little beading on it, but was otherwise a long, plain silky number. Got it on amazing sale from the women’s department as it was so tiny no woman could fit in it, haha! Was perfect for teenaged me though. :)

I would love to, but it was given away to a little girl my mum heard of who needed a formal dress :) I would still have the old photos somewhere though if I looked hard enough I guess! :)
