The former model and stylist Gail Reid (nicknamed ‘Ging’ by her mother) launched GAIL SORRONDA in 2005 after winning the Mercedes-Benz Start Up Awards. Having wowed her university teachers and peers since the very beginning, it was not long until Australian and international media sought to court her attention. Karl Lagerfeld announced her as ‘one to watch’ in a guest-edited post for UK Harpers & Queen. Constantly playing with contrasts, Reid’s designs strike the perfect harmony between strong conceptualization and bold wearability, always with a dramatic edge. This is why I stocked her label in my boutique. In 2010 I had the pleasure of attending the group runway show during Milan Fashion Week featuring Gail Sorronda’s SS11 Murmur collection. She was a finalist in Vogue Italia’s esteemed Alta Roma Who Is on Next competition. If being one of the best-selling labels at Dolce & Gabanna’s Spiga2 store in Milan is not enough, Stefana Gabbana declared in The Wall Street Journal: “I love Gail Sorronda. It’s my taste“.

She’s such a sweetheart, isn’t she? I was totally captivated by her personality and how she plays with the concept of dark romanticism while I interviewed her for the Ekka blog earlier this year. Which is your fav collection so far? Have you seen her latest collaboration collection Just Like Honey? ‘Sweet like honey but sting like a bee’ – so well played and that’s quintessentially what Gail Sorronda is about!
