I don’t know if you have realised but lately burgers are having a moment. Especially in winter, we all crave comfort foods. What’s better than having a wholesome burger and chunky chips with your beloveds? Cupcakes and macarons may have us sweet tooths around their little finger tips, but at the end of the day, blokes will be blokes, and burgers will continue to be a solid favourite among the boys, and tomboys.
I mentioned in this post that we had hubby’s surprise birthday party at Fat Bob’s a few months ago. Now that the Moorabbin establishment has become so popular that you need to wait 45 minutes for your burger, and 2 weeks in advance to book, hubby and I got the hint that it’s time to move on and support another ABJ, awesome burger joint.
Royale Brothers Burger Bar in Brighton fits the bill perfectly. If you’re a Pulp Fiction fan, then you’ll know where the name comes from. Located at the rear of The (famous) Pantry, this seriously hipster joint serves seriously good burgers. I’ve tried 4 already. the Bacon Royale, the Pork Jerk, Crispy Fish and Grilled Chicken, my favourite is still the Bacon Royale. They’ve all be juicy, substantial and satisfying. Just the way good burgers should be! Plus, their chips are hand cut and each order comes with a coaster-sized buzzer that lights up when your food is ready. Pretty nifty! Since there is only outdoor seating, we carried our buzzer with us as we ducked down to The Pantry Delicatessen to stock up on some more sophisticated gourmet goodies. The walnut/coconut brownie and the Continental cheesecake is to die for!
As we sat on the bench devouring our burgers, a chef from The Pantry walked by. Hubby noticed that the man in uniform is none other than his childhood friend Matt Head! Having an informal burger bar on the same premises of The Pantry was Matt’s ingenious idea. Casual lunch, fine dining/cooking classes and fancy pantry products are all available at the same place! No wonder they say “you are what your friends are“. Who knew that two little geniuses once lived on the same street?
So, when you find yourself at Royale Brothers in Brighton, you have to try the cookies and cream thick shake. I warn you though , it is seriously thick. Maybe I should tell Matt to get thicker straws… I know I’m not a food blogger, but lately I’ve been working so much as a vet that the only down time I have is spent with family and friends over food. Plus Melbourne weather hasn’t exactly been picture perfect for outfit shoots. So I look forward to the sunshine this weekend and I promise that next week I’ll be back on track with more fashion posts.

Me too! Those burgers are welcome in my belly any day :)
Oh wow.. we’re definitely going to have to try this one out! Thanks for sharing. Love the photos (especially the first one where I’m left wondering how on earth you’re going to fit that enormous burger in your mouth)! ;)
Let’s go there in summer and we can sit by the beach and devour them :D Trust me, the burger was gone in a flash!
Great pictures. These meals look delicious, I’d love a chicken burger right now.
