One of my favourite collections from Paris Fashion Week was from my favourite pair of Dutch twin sisters- Truus and Riet, creators of Spijkers en Spijkers. Their AW10/11 collection is classic and modern and very wearable. Vogue Italia wrote an article about them, which you can see here. They knew camel is huge for winter this year and they incorporated it heavily in their Fall collection. I’ve kept these photos for over 6 months before I could show them to you. But now that the collection is in store, I can disclose these to you to my heart’s content!

Wearing a wool cropped jacket, Miss Sixty top, vintage brocade skirt and YSL ring. The Fall collection was inspired by the movie Metropolis.

This is my favourite piece from the collection. As you know I’m an avid lover of jumpsuits, rompers and playsuits alike. See this post for example. I especially love this Spijkers en Spijkers one because I can wear it in winter, whereas all my other jumpsuits are summer varieties. Here it is featured in a magazine editorial. Exquisite.

This is the ‘Michael Jackson’ jacket which is so-named by me because of its metallic sheen. This jacket is featured on the front cover of their look book. Love it!

These blazers have a semicircle cut-out collar which allows showing off of neck pieces. I like!

Here I am with Truus, one twin sister and one half of the talented designer duo. The jewellery used for their runway is from MAWI (pronounced ‘Moi’) which we also stock, you can see more of their pieces here.

Just a quirky fact on the side: in Melbourne we kiss once on the cheek, in Paris everyone does it twice on both cheeks but apparently the Dutch do it 3 times! That’s why I bumped heads with Truus and missed the 3rd cheek kiss. How embarassing!

OK, I know that I’ve been raving on and on about my Spijkers en Spijkers Big Star top, because I’ve blogged about it in 2 different posts: My Secret Identity and Photo Opportunity and also, a lovely customer bought the tunic top and we featured her on our Shop Chic Blog. Here is my Big Star top again, we also have it in red!

But I still feel as though I have not done a proper post about the designers themselves. Spijkers en Spijkers are two aspiring Dutch sisters with a manifesto tailored especially to the female form! Their “form follows function” ethos and signature style skilfully twines geometrical sculpture, early modernism and flattering femininity to enhance sensuality through strong cuts. Every collection brings to light a character, a story, dusted off and paraded in a scent of strong feminine vigour. Their pieces are regularly featured in the Dutch Elle, Grazia and Vogue magazines.

They look so much alike!

I was lucky enough to meet Truus (above right) at Paris Fashion Week earlier in the year, she is so sweet! Maybe I’ll be lucky to meet Riet as well in September!

This season, Spijkers en Spijkers created a collection of loose fit dresses inspired by the night sky, its constellations, the luxurious and erotic world of Pandora’s box for their Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Their inspirational quote came from Oscar Wilde’s ‘We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking to the stars.’ Our boutique stocks the dress on the right, isn’t it amazing? An art deco worth investing in.

Reflections from 2nd Week

One of the best things about being a boutique owner is that I get to dress the mannequins. We have 8 in total and I enjoy getting them dolled up each week. Monday is the day they each get a new outfit. Below are the highlights from this week, please let me know which one is your favourite.

Karla Spetic grey silk dress with Alldressedup pink silicon belt, a little ‘Lady Gaga’.

This is the Spijkers en Spijkers range. Twin sisters Truus and Riet have a knack at creating the most unusual pieces in the finest silks. The galaxy drape dress is a favourite, and the Brooks sheer top is amazing on (over a black camisole). The Dutch sisters reside in Arnheim, the Netherlands. They have won many awards at the fashion school and their collection gets stronger each season. This is the current Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

This amazing bodycon dress is created by German twin sisters Danny and Annette Felder, of the eponymous label Felder Felder. The London based label has a huge celebrity following. Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rhianna, Florence and the Machines are just a few of their fans.

This is an Alldressedup outfit- silk one-shouldered top with the cutest shorts which have folding detail at the cuffs. You can also see an Alldressedup leather bag with shoelace handles and one of my favourite necklaces- hand-made from silicon and perspex. Trust Alldressedup to think of working with such cool media! The leather ring belt is from Felder Felder.

This is the most amazing (and dearest) dress in our store this season. A fantastic Felder Felder creation. This sequinned dress is lined with fine silk. Definitely for the fashion-forward! The bracelet is actually part of a necklace from Alldressedup.

Here is the Felder Felder rack. We only stock 1 in every size. There are a few one-off pieces, like this red dress. The power-mesh material used is genius, it gives the best body-con shape even for those who don’t have it.
