Spring Romance

One of the highlights of 2012 so far is the wedding of our dear friends, Jade and Roger. One of the most compassionate, intelligent, fun, driven and glamorous couples I’m blessed to know. When we were in Hong Kong, Roger filled us in the epic tale of how he proposed to Jade, with a raw diamond, ~~upon her request~~. This ring she wears took Roger nearly a year to acquire. And for any ordinary mortal, they would have been deterred by the lack of un-dodgy suppliers, wholesalers and retailers and stopped their perilous pursuit. But not for Roger, he literally went to the ends of the earth to show Jade his love. And Jade? The words ‘beautiful’ and ‘talented’ are mere understatements of this music virtuoso with a black belt in Tae-kwon-do and a deep passion for the arts. In one of the speeches, the brides-MAN declared that ‘if he got a dollar every time Jade got hit on, he’d be Skype-ing his speech from his palace in Sweden.’

I was on an emotional high all day at the ‘Spring Runway’ themed wedding. The stunning bride wore a silk gown created by a Cambodian-based designer, Eric Raisina, purchased on their holidays. The beautiful bridal party included a brides-MAN and a grooms-LADY. The bestmen were decked out in preppy Tommy-Hilfiger-inspired outfits which Roger art-directed (he is a designer, after all!). We were treated to a sensational Stokehouse gastronomic experience and got to witness the most divine speeches and be serenaded by dear friends and hubby(see below)! These photos can only offer a glimpse into the loving atmosphere of the day. But hey, we’ve all been gifted with imaginations! Enjoy!

Remember I mentioned in this post that I acquired something super special in Singapore? Well this is the dress. An original 70s’ Yves Saint Laurent one-shouldered ruffle gown. Couldn’t think of a better dress to wear to a ‘Spring Runway’ themed nuptial by the beach.

I Met Her On the Quay

Last post I shared with you photos from a fashion shoot I styled. Here are some photos I took whilst waiting. Sunset on the Docklands New Quay is so gorgeous, I couldn’t resist!

I took a leaf out of my designer friend Roger Thyvane’s page, and got a pair of sunglasses-glasses. I have such a big face so I need really big frames. You may have gathered by now that I often wear dresses as jackets, like in this post, and this Miu Miu dress is no exception. It was my beloved splurger-nir from Paris, previously seen in this post with Henry Holland and the Felder sisters. It was a runway piece, the only one in the store, in my size! It was meant to be.

On the day of this shoot, I came straight from work (the boutique), that’s why I’m dressed head to toe in pieces I bought from the shop:

Mawi necklace, Amy Kaehne silk shirt, Alldressedup skirt, vintage belt, Mawi ring and Repetto booties. Theodore (the Chihuahua) had a great time too!

East Meets West

Recently a very talented photographer friend of mine wanted to build up his fashion portfolio, so he asked me to style some shoots with him. Here is one of them, you would have already seen the gorgeous Ebony in this post and the Brighton Beach shoot. Justin specializes in events, portraits, weddings and fashion. He is also one of the coolest guys I know.

I used some pieces from the boutique (from top to bottom: Sara Phillips silk kimono gown, Alldressedup silk bow top and cream pants) and my own pieces (the gorgeous Cheongsam, the silk ties and all the vintage accessories). I couldn’t find anything from my wardrobe in the male model’s size… except the silver tie in the first few pictures from my gorgeous friend Thyvane.

We had ace weather on the day, the makeup was really interesting (some people gave us strange looks as we walked down the street), it was heaps of fun.

Fashion Aid Gala

About 3 months ago we bought tickets to the most-anticipated fashion event of the year. We got a table of 10 and counted the days to the Fashion Aid Gala.

Up until a week before hand I still didn’t know what I was going to wear…When the new Alldressedup pieces came in, my heart nearly skipped a beat when I saw the beautiful purple silk halter dress. But I knew I woudn’t be able to pull it off. Just as well, one of our VIP customers came and bought the dress I adore and wore it to the Gala with us!

I knew everyone would be wearing dresses (ladies,that is), so it became obvious that I just had to wear my vintage fuschia jumpsuit. I got it from Retro Star a year ago and never had a chance to wear it! So I debuted it with vintage YSL gold earrings, Alldressedup bow belt, my favourite Aris Geldis Paris bracelet and super tall but super-comfortable Lanvin pumps from Christine. I cannot believe how comfortable my outfit was as I danced all night and ate almost 4 courses (I ate 2 mains!). Each course was designed by the head chef of great restaurants- think The Press Club, Maha and The Lanvin heels proved to be a success, they lasted all night and didn’t cause my feet any grief.

I worked as a vet in the morning, then at the boutique and after my hair-curling appointment, I only had 10 minutes to get ready so after I finally settled with these accessories, being completely absent-minded, I left the boutique without my tickets and my camera and forgot to put makeup on. So all the photos are curtesy of Jess’ camera! Merci beaucoup ma cherie!
