summer

Basket Case

by cecylia on January 9, 2012

Hello lovelies! Did you enjoy your weekend? We’ve been very blessed with fine weather here in Melbourne. Summer is hands down my favourite season. It is closely associated with sun, fun, ice cream and fresh fruits. Some of my most beloved fashion pieces are summer essentials, such as anything silk (shirts, skirts, dresses, shorts, pants), espadrilles and straw baskets.

As you may recall I started 2012 going to the library with my wicker basket bag, here is the mini version of a vintage tote I’ve had for a while. Basket bags are all hand-made so they are the epitome of artistic prowess of rural parts of the world. These bags may not be able to carry heavy objects like your laptop or a hard-cover book but they are sturdy enough for a phone, wallet and candy, and they make their wearer appear environmentally-friendly and well-travelled.

I have a very soft spot for printed shirts and this Kyla Crozier silk shirt is a current favourite. I feel very patriotic wearing it. Made in Australia, the Sydney designer was inspired by Aussie native flora, can you decipher the vast assemblage of plant species on it? It’s as light as a feather if it weren’t for the metal buttons. Attention to detail indeedy.

What do you think of the A-line silk skirt? The exquisitely cut Violet & I olive Mallorca skirt is ultra-flattering. And how can I resist double layered silk? The advantages are two-fold, layers reduce transparency and the inner offer a dreamy touch to anyone’s thighs.

One of my best friends, Lisa, gave me this red leather belt (similar one here) nearly 2 decades ago, I didn’t appreciate it back as a teen but now I’m considering giving it heirloom status.

It wasn’t difficult blending these pieces together. I started with the Violet & I skirt, found a shirt with a harmonizing print and added accessories with complimentary tones. I usually get dressed within 5 minutes.

Where: Going to a garage sale

Wear: Vintage sunnies, earrings, bag + belt,  Kyla Krozier silk shirt (last seen here), Panache LingerieViolet & I silk skirt, Urban Soul espadrilles

Building Blocks

by cecylia on November 13, 2009

Spring is here. Flowers are blooming and we should inject some colour into our wardrobes. Here are some gorgeous pieces from various designers from previous seasons for your visual charm. These colorful numbers are all in block colors. I find that wearing colourful clothes brightens my day.

Here is a yellow purple voidle draped dress with a cinch belt by Marc Jacobs. I love the horizontal stripes on the torso and the drapery details around the hips- very flattering cut. I apologize about the Wesley College colours.

What a wonderful trench! This Diane von Furstenberg ‘lab coat’ is tres chic. You could wear it as a dress with some red heels. I love the bow tie. The unusual colour combination actually works!

The perfect summer number for a luncheon with friends. I love this 3 -tone Thread Social silk twill strapless dress. The scalloped edge is very popular this season.

Ok, so this Luella jacket is mainly purple. I had to include this boucle jacket in this post because it is just divine. How gorgeous is the lace inserts and the diagonal zip! I would wear it with indigo skinnies or a white pair of lien shorts. Ingenious design!

Thread Social has a good thing going. Here is a shoulder-tier tank dress in 3 unusual colours. You could just wear it with a pair of bejeweled sandals or dress it up with an embellished belt and fabulous heels.

Marc Jacobs is a master of colours. Here is a Marc by Marc Jacobs Maggie stripe knit jacket. I adore knit jackets because they offer formality without being high-maintenance when packed for trips. I agree that staring at the stripes makes you a little dizzy, perhaps that was the charm Jacobs was trying to achieve.

I have saved the best for last. This is a silk Sonia Rykiel striped silk chiffon dress. I adore the peach and fuchsia combination. It is dressy and sassy enough for any occasion. The colours are ultra-flattering, especially if you add some sparkles. I would spend the entire summer in this frock.

So there you are, dig out your colourful clothes and start wearing them instead of the usual black that we live in! Summer is here!
