Nocturnal celebrations

by cecylia on February 22, 2010

I attended a friend’s 30th one night. The theme was a cocktail party ‘with a touch of sass’. I worked beforehand so had to rush there. I had not planned my outfit at all and I was already running late. I grabbed a vintage dress i had just purchased that week and squeezed into it, now I wish I hadn’t eaten just a big lunch. I was really lucky to have found this 2-tiered dress. Although it was vintage, it was a couture piece by an extinct designer, in pristine condition and all cotton (I’m a material snob). You can even wear it off the shoulder. Recently hubbie has made me promise that I am not able to buy more shoes unless i start wearing shoes that are still waiting to adorn my feet. To add a little sass, I stepped into my Miss Sixty wedges. These shoes have waited pateitnly for over 3 years. And the wait was worth it, they were so soft and the tassles were so frivolous. I added some semi-precious stone earrings and a vintage leaf belt and off we went!

Here’s a close up of the belt and shoes. I got this navy blue vinyl clutch from Ebay! It was one my earliest purchases from Ebay and aside from my clothes treamer, it is probably my favourite purchases. It’s just the right size for all of my essentials.

These shoes are actually pretty cute, I can’t believe I’ve neglected them all these years.

I don’t know why but this picture of me by the pond reminds me a lot of John Millais’ Ophelia (1850).

Ophelia was believed to have fallen into a river  and drowned after the branch upon which she was leaning on broke. Ophelia’s death has been praised as one of the most poetic death announcements in literature. Anyway…

Sipping punch on a marvelous staircase.  The stairs have tassels too!

Fanning myself in front of some Australian bush art.

I cannot think of a better way to celebrate one’s birthday at a place that is rich in art, culture, friendships and great cuisine. Thanks for having me Claire!

“Sometimes our fate resembles a fruit tree in winter. Who would think that those branches would turn green again and blossom, but we hope it, we know it. “ -Johann Wolfgang on Goethe

I only became a fan of green a few years ago. I grew up without anything green in my wardrobe as it was my mother’s least favourite colour. Over the years however,  jade and emerald have lured me into becoming their friends, especially after Karl Lagerfeld brought the colour back  into the fashion spotlight through his jade jewelry. The stylish ladies below bring ”it’s chic to be green’ to a whole new level.

The quilted Balenciaga bag aside, that green cardigan is very catchy, but so is her fluffy leather jacket.

I would be laughing too if I carried a Birkin and had her dress! How amazing is the geometric print! Her dress reminds me of the funky label Antik Batik and her sandals reflect the orange lines of her dress beautifully.

love those blue sandals!

OK, her sandals are probably the best feature, but her floral skirt is stunning too. Simple and chic.

So achingly elegant in this emerald silk dress, plus her red lips-a  match made in heaven.

I think Karla (Karla’s Closet) is wearing Animalia Alexander McQueen heels, but it is her turquoise blazer that caught my eye.

Now here is a lady I would love to meet one day – Natalie Massnet, the founder and director of the ultimate online designer destination Net-A-Porter. I love the olive cardigan and Fendi belt her friend is wearing!

cape dress!!

Who would have thought that a frumpy green cardigan with a cape attached to it would be so hip on. Together with those two-toned heels, she looks like she could take on the world!

This post is dedicated to Jo (it’s her favourite colour), who is making me green with envy as she is travelling around Europe.
