Stella McCartney

Phoenix

by cecylia on January 4, 2012

So how did you go op-shopping with my tips? I scored this vivid frock recently in the local thrift store. If you ignored the glorious print of this drop-waisted dress, it would look quite drab wouldn’t it? Why would anyone wear an elasticised drop waist dress in this day and age? Because the 20s are back lovelies! And the midi is the new mini! And just in case I run into a colourblind bunch who won’t be able to appreciate the 5 different hues on this frock, I decided to rock it with some 20s inspired accessories- an ornate headband, a velvet belt (to elevate the waistline), velvet clutch (gotta match! we are in the 20s after all) and since I didn’t have any fishnets, I pulled out these Stella McCartney-esque mesh heels. But of course I didn’t just stop there…

Voila! With no sewing skills, anyone can hitch one side of their dress up and hide it under their trusty belt to create an asymmetric skirt. See? Less boring already. But there’s more!

Spot the difference? Yeb, the other side of the skirt has also been pulled up under the belt to create a knee-length frock. Great for those with sexy calves or for those who despise the midi-length. What’s that I hear you ask? You wanna see the details of my accessories? Sure thing, here goes:

I’ve had this South American headband for years but have never had the occasion to wear it. Can you think up of an occasion to wear a colourful tribe of people on your head? So, I had to improvise. Ok, now that you understand the ‘logic’ behind my outfit, let’s pose!

Apparently this is the pose (left index pushing on left cheek- into your dimple, if you have one) is what kids in Asia do to appear ‘cute’ and to get out of trouble with their parents. (Learnt this when we were in Singapore last year) A cheeky smile with an obvious statement about your facial muscular defect is the key to charm those older than you. No wonder it always works for me when hubby does it (I’m older than him by 10 months).

And lastly, but definitely not the least: Clothes need to be comfortable, they need to be able to glam you up for sipping cocktails whilst you dance the Charleston and protect you whilst you bounce on a trampoline*.

Where: on my way to post some letters

Wear: vintage headband, sunnies (similar pair here), belt, dress, clutch, self-made necklace (last seen here), Nine West heels (previously worn here) and a cheeky grin

*No trampolines were hurt in this shoot.

Jumpsuit for Joy

by cecylia on June 9, 2009

Words cannot describe how much I love jumpsuits. I own at least a dozen of them- denim, black, green, blue, white, grey, and various printed versions. I wear short ones in summer and full-lengths in winter. Is it the way they flaunt your figure or their ease of application? Either way, I guess you will only agree with me if you have tried a jumpsuit. They are my alternative to dresses this season.

There are only 2 rules to the jumpsuit: choose a flattering cut even if means going one size up(the looser the garment, the thinner you appear!) and always wear long jumpsuits with heels.

If you hold a prejudiced view against jumpsuits. I hope the following photos will change your view and  life forever.

stella-mccartney-awesome-onepiece

A glammed-up version in classic black, by Stella McCartney.  Puffy sleeves are optional, sharp heels are not.

eva-in-black-jumpsuit

You can tell by her smart and polished style that this is a Parisian chick. Eva is a regular on thesartorialist.com. I love the tuxedo tailoring of this gorgeous jumpsuit. Eva, please tell me where you got it from.

bcbg-max-azria-satiny

Please focus on BCBG Max Azria’s silky grey one-piece worn by Aussie model Abbey Lee Kershaw.  See what I mean by heels? The belt accentuates her tiny waist and those leather sandals raises her to great heights.

thandie-lookalike

Here is a demonstration of a Thandie Newton-lookalike sporting the ready-to-wear grey jumpsuit. The buttersoft leather jacket with rolled-up sleeves and her black clutch adds an air of sophistication to her fun one-piece suit. This beautiful lady has refined taste. I like.

louis-vuitton-resortm-09

The gorgeous Natasha Poly in a magenta silk jumpsuit for the resort collection from Louis Vouitton 09. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? A must-have piece for going to anywhere and everywhere balmy and exotic. Love the deep pockets and the golden wedges.

trish-goff-in-jumpsuit

Former American model Trish Goff, now front-row seater at fashion shows also pays patronage to the jumpsuit in a peach number. What’s not to love? The colour is a smash hit and the biker-details are super hot. Warning: highly rockable and may evoke too many admiring glances. Next to Trish, Daisy Lowe looks on enviously.
