Sweet Romance

by cecylia on September 2, 2010

I could not believe my luck when I got to meet the gorgeous Anna Plunkett from Romance was Born at the exhibition opening of their collaboration with Karen Woodbury gallery’s artist Kate Rohde. The unique installation of spectacle showcased sculpture, clothing, wall-paper, fabric and accessories. The inspiration behind the fantasy artwork is from dinaosaurs, deers and antelopes.

I have been a fan of Romance for years. I love Anna’s quirky style, she’s Australia’s Zooey Deschanel. She is a rare mix of beauty and brains. Here she is wearing a Hermes scarf turban, Gail Sorronda dress and Therese Rawthorne cardigan. I really want to learn to wear head gear too! Something that really amazed me that night was when Anna told me that she and Luke and design everything for themselves. They create what they love, they don’t complicate their fantastical ideas by imagining what their ideal customer would like. They just make what they adore, their art is pure. Perhaps it’s because of this that they have a cult following and are considered the best pair of avant-garde designers of this century.

The collection was called ‘Renaissance Dinosaur’, you will see the fantastical creatures below. The resin wall plaques are  stunning.

I love the wall paper! It was made into a silk T shirt dress and a tote bag. How cute are the owls! ‘Hoot Hoot!’ Each modern dino is ravishing.

There were a few head pieces on show. I don’t know how many people can wear them…maybe to a fancy dress party. This hat reminds me of Dragon dancing during Chinese New Year.

Wearing a vintage top, blazer, De Denim jeans, Miss Sixty pumps and Jerome Dreyfuss bag. This is the best head piece, you can probably wear it to a Cos Play party. I thought of Neliel from Bleach as soon as I saw it, must be the horns.

It’s no wonder Romance was Born is so popular in Japan as well. Their pieces are wearable pieces of art. They are designers, they are also artists.

Finally in Felder

by cecylia on July 19, 2010

After eyeing the Felder Felder ring skirt for 3 months, I finally gave in to temptation. It was definitely worth the wait (and the price). The leather is so soft and when I walk the skirt literally rings! Plus, this skirt is made in England.

Recently I had a major wardrobe cleanup. I am a major hoarder and have way too much for what I am incapable of wearing. So finally after putting my foot down firmly (and  taking a few bags to the local vintage shops), I have made some progress.

One rack got special attention. This is my work wardrobe rack standing behind me. It contains some pieces I own from the boutique paired with my vintage pieces. I have decided to let this rack be my main rack and the rest of my wardrobe is the ‘storage’ and I will rotate garments periodically. That is the plan.

Wearing a vintage top and cardigan with my tallest Marc Jacobs heart heels. I’m trying to wear my more ordinary shoes out (see in the background) before I wear the pairs I treasure, still sitting pretty in their boxes.

Do you remember that Karla Spetic cardigan I liked to wear up side down? See here =) I tested it on this vintage stripy number. See how the horizontal stripes became vertical? It’s magic! Oh by the way, Karla’s last name is pronounced ‘Sh-peti-ch’!

There may be some pieces you can recognize from the rack. Like the Zara tweed jacket in the middle of the rack, as seen here, or the vintage green dress, gifted by my auntie, at the end of the clothes stand, as seen here

This top is one of my favourite vintage finds, it has gold lines all through it. Labelled a size 14, it still fits well and you should never judge a garment by its labelled size. Always try it on and see how it fits. The Chloe horse-shoe necklace is also a very lucky vintage find.

And since we’re on the topic of ‘rings’, recently I got  2 new rings- a squirrel, gifted by the beautiful Jess from whatwouldkarldo blog, and a lion. I love animal rings, they are finger pets!

What do you think of the Felder Felder skirt? What’s your favourite ring? Mind sharing?

Sunglasses at The Ritz

by cecylia on March 16, 2010

On my recent trip to Paris Fashion Week I visited the MeMy showroom at The Ritz. It is as gorgeous as they say- and certainly lived up to its name being one of the poshest hotel in the world.

I met countless fabulous designers and complimented them on their great efforts.  The following few posts will be about some of the European designers that I have not come across before in Australia and have become quite fond of a few.

I will start off with the sunglasses designers. I came across Illesteva sunnies which were quite cool.  This label is stocked at Opening Ceremony, a must-visit when I go to New York, in the near-future, I hope. They were made from resin in Italy and the shapes were quite funky. Don’t you love the tortoise shell ones?

The glasses were flimsily displayed on glass beakers. I tried a few pairs on.

The sales agent there talked like an American on fast forward. At least he was cute.

Next was Cutler and Gross, a much better known optical label. Cutler and Gross was founded in London 40 years ago by Graham Culter and Tony Gross, who turned mediocre and mundane medical necessities into fun and fabulous fashion accessories.  The eyewear label is founded by established opticians. You can get your eyes tested with them!

I tried a couple of pairs on and I think these larger frames fitted my broad face better.

Maybe the lighting was better, but I thought the Culter and Gross sunnies were better as well. These were a lovely shape.

Having a Dame Edna moment. Check out the gorgeous garments in the back ground! Honestly, when I first arrived at the show room, I didn’t know where to look.

Wearing a Miss Sixty woollen cardigan.

I think these were my favourites. Illesteva was funky and not well-known. Cutler and Gross is too well-known.  It was a difficult decision to make. In the end, I decided that my boutique does not need sunnies as yet. Do you prefer to buy sunglasses from an optical shop or from a fashion boutique?
