Nine west

Phoenix

by cecylia on January 4, 2012

So how did you go op-shopping with my tips? I scored this vivid frock recently in the local thrift store. If you ignored the glorious print of this drop-waisted dress, it would look quite drab wouldn’t it? Why would anyone wear an elasticised drop waist dress in this day and age? Because the 20s are back lovelies! And the midi is the new mini! And just in case I run into a colourblind bunch who won’t be able to appreciate the 5 different hues on this frock, I decided to rock it with some 20s inspired accessories- an ornate headband, a velvet belt (to elevate the waistline), velvet clutch (gotta match! we are in the 20s after all) and since I didn’t have any fishnets, I pulled out these Stella McCartney-esque mesh heels. But of course I didn’t just stop there…

Voila! With no sewing skills, anyone can hitch one side of their dress up and hide it under their trusty belt to create an asymmetric skirt. See? Less boring already. But there’s more!

Spot the difference? Yeb, the other side of the skirt has also been pulled up under the belt to create a knee-length frock. Great for those with sexy calves or for those who despise the midi-length. What’s that I hear you ask? You wanna see the details of my accessories? Sure thing, here goes:

I’ve had this South American headband for years but have never had the occasion to wear it. Can you think up of an occasion to wear a colourful tribe of people on your head? So, I had to improvise. Ok, now that you understand the ‘logic’ behind my outfit, let’s pose!

Apparently this is the pose (left index pushing on left cheek- into your dimple, if you have one) is what kids in Asia do to appear ‘cute’ and to get out of trouble with their parents. (Learnt this when we were in Singapore last year) A cheeky smile with an obvious statement about your facial muscular defect is the key to charm those older than you. No wonder it always works for me when hubby does it (I’m older than him by 10 months).

And lastly, but definitely not the least: Clothes need to be comfortable, they need to be able to glam you up for sipping cocktails whilst you dance the Charleston and protect you whilst you bounce on a trampoline*.

Where: on my way to post some letters

Wear: vintage headband, sunnies (similar pair here), belt, dress, clutch, self-made necklace (last seen here), Nine West heels (previously worn here) and a cheeky grin

*No trampolines were hurt in this shoot.

A Thousand Apologies

by cecylia on March 19, 2011

To my beautiful readers, a thousand apologies for been late with my posts this week! I was so excited after Monday night’s LMFF Opening Party of ‘Fashion Full Stop’ that I stayed up til the early morn to show you the Retrospective fashion parade, but I’ve just been swamped with a billion things in the last few days!

So, since we last saw each other on the cyberspace, I’ve worked as a vet, attended 5 runway shows, one of which I was now allowed in because I had my chihuahua Theodore with me :( more on that later…watched ‘Catwalk’ at ACMI which was brilliant, more on that later also :), saw Helena Christensen walk, held a ‘Versastyle Event’ at the boutique, been to a wedding, a showing, and worked at the boutique, and I’ve got to get changed into a frilly jumpsuit for the last runway show I’m attending at LMFF. It’s been an amazing week, but I wish there were more hours during the day! This is just a quick post to let you know that I’m still alive, and missing you all. Cannot wait to share with you the highlights from LMFF soon!

This outfit is what I wore on Thursday to a showing, a visit to my old school, coffee with a sweetie, 2 runway shows at GPO and ‘Catwalk’ at ACMI.

Manning Cartell blazer/Sophia Kokosalaki silk tops/vintage skirt, belt, brooch, necklace and sunnies/Chloe ‘Daria’ bag/Nine West shoes

Next post- all the beauties seen at GPO!

Graffiti Pants

by cecylia on February 6, 2011

Recently inspired by this post on street graffiti, I’ve been dying to pull these amazing vintage graffiti pants out for a spin for years!  This is an almost all-vintage outfit:

Sunnies, shirt (Weiss), pants, belt, bracelet and bag (Christian Dior) are all vintage, YSL ring, Nine West mesh heels

Fragrance note: my new beloved Remnicence perfume ‘Do Re’ from “Les Notes Gourmandes” collection. It is the first fragrance of the collection, has notes of green fig aroma in the top, almond, cedar wood and Javan patchouli in the heart, and the fusion of velvety vanilla, Tonka bean Siam benzoin and sensual musk in the base. It transports me to the chic streets of Paris whenever I smell it. It’s genius that it’s named after musical notes!!

People always ask us if Theodore (the cute Chihuahua)  travels in bags. He doesn’t :) I think he’s such a chilled Chihuahua simply because he is treated like a dog, and because he came from a great breeder.

Cafe Umago

by cecylia on January 11, 2010

Recently a good friend came to visit from Canberra, so we caught up at Cafe Umago on Brunswick St in Fitzroy. They have the best tasting and the best variety of pizzas in Melbourne. I headed over in a burnt orange dress from Cue, vintage clutch, a vintage chain necklace and some buckled heels from Nine West. By my definition, a good dinner constitutes good food, good friends and good conversation. These were friends I grew up with, and I am so fond of them. Isn’t it funny that even though you may not catch up with your old friends often, you still feel the close connection and you still ‘get’ each other? And you never run out of things to chat about…

The fresco on the back wall of the restaurant was defnitely eye-catching and set a vibrant atmosphere to our dinner.DSC00374

I’ve been to Cafe Umago a few times now, but only this time did I notice these cute little stenciled houses leaning against the wall. The meals are delicious and the waiters are very courteous.  I indulged in a large plate of Barramundi smothered in creamy-of-mushroom sauce and an equally scrumptious potato salad.

DSC00396With a big appetite like mine, I never regret wearing loose fitting clothes to dinners.
