Edenborough Evans, an Italian Love Affair

by cecylia on October 26, 2011

Ciao bella! Can you believe that it’s actually spring in Melbourne? But the weather here is like a flexible gymnast who is a keen show-off. I had a cold not long ago so have learnt (via the hard way) the importance of keeping warm. So here I am, layered up, in the middle of Spring. I recently found these vintage Moschino pants I’ve had for years (last time I wore them was 3 years ago in Dublin) and have refriended them. The scarf is a new addition from the local op-shop, Italians sure know how to make their knits.

I mentioned an Edenborough Evans necklace I got from Arabella Ramsay in this post. The jewellery are wearable pieces of art blending opulent Florentine designs with Melbourne street style, totally up my alley. Anna Cowen, the designer, is a Melbourne-based Visual Arts graduate who trained in Italy, and has her jewels stocked in boutiques from Paris to New York. One of Edenborough Evans’ devotees is none other than the stunning fashionista Ruby Rose, who is also an avid supporter of fine Australian designers. Here is a closer view of the self-engraved sterling silver necklace, oh no still a little blurry… Hammering ’10 Nov 07′, our wedding anniversary date, onto the plate was no easy feat, but hubby did very well. It really is a test of your concentration skills and a nouveau experience not to be missed!

Outfit: Vintage sunnies, Chloe jacket (last seen here), Miss Sixty jumper, Moschino pants, Edenborough Evans necklace, vintage ivory/tassel necklace (last seen here), Damselfly ring, vintage scarf, Repetto shoes

Hammer your very own Edenborough Evans necklace at the whimsical Arabella Ramsay store

1073 High St Armadale Tel: 03 9824 4490

See Edenborough Evans’ full collection on their online store here, trust me you are in for a treat!

And by the way, for those of you who are wondering why I never talk about my boutique anymore, you can find out why here. I’m fine, don’t worry about me, I just feel so incredibly blessed by the whole experience and for your amazing support. So thank you so much dear ones. And who knows what the future may hold for Cecylia? Guess you’ll just have to keep reading and find out :)

Flowers and the Canberra Vintage Fair

by cecylia on November 30, 2010

Recently I had a perfect excuse to have a weekend away and to visit the capital city of our country, Canberra : for a wedding!

This lovely couple is going to be my future cousins-in-law! The bride has become one of my closest friends in a short space of time – we have so much in common! She is like a sister I’ve never had (because I’m an only child). We share the same passions for vintage gems, macaroons, shoes (We’re the same shoes size!), cute miniature Japanese tea sets and believe it or not, we’re both PK’s (Pastor’s kids/daughters). Anyway, I was delighted to be asked to be her Matron of Honor and their wedding was just beautiful.

My plane outfit- vintage blouse, vintage Jaeger couture blazer, MaxMara wool pants, Jil Sander suede heels from Milan (favourite shoe-venirs from Foxtown!) The brooch covered by my hand is Mawi, the belt is vintage and the bag is Bally (a bag-enir from Switzerland…this was in fact my first designer hand bag…but it’s so new because I rarely use it because I’m so accident-prone. Bally makes the softest leather bags in the world- I’m not kidding. This bag was extra special because I bought it in its country of origin and the style was not available in Melbourne =)

One of the reasons this wedding was so special and unique is because the bride and groom put so much effort into making their big day eco-friendly. As you can see all the recycled bottles were collected by their friends to be used as flower pots, candle holders as well as crayon/coloured-pencil jar. So everyone helped and everyone was part of their special day!

The bride didn’t splurge at a florist, she did it her own way. Early in the morning we drove to the local market to buy fresh flowers and make the posies ourselves. Thanks to everyone’s contribution, we got the job done in 1/3 of the time!

The next post will be featuring the best bits of the wedding. But first things first I must report to you about the best vintage fair I’ve ever attended in my life!!! I got to go because we finished the floral arrangement job early =)

It may not look like much…but the quality of the pieces, all vintage gems from different eras (from the 20s through to the 70′s) were in mint condition. There was a stall with garments from the Victorian era! I loved all the black lace pieces but I don’t think I could keep these pieces in good condition like their previous owners did.

I found some amazing garments which I will share with you in future posts. Below is a jewellery stall that had the biggest collection of vintage brooches, earrings and necklaces. I was extra smitten by the silk Chanel wrist bag (on my left arm) and the vintage Moschino heart bag!

I don’t get the chance to go shopping nowadays, unless I’m on holidays. I felt like I was transported to a beautiful place of a bygone era, a fashion museum, a wearable candy store- vintage heaven. I know you’re dying to know what I bought on the day…I’ll tell you soon!

But since I can’t hold in my exuberant excitement I’ll let you have a sneak peak at my favourite cardigan:

I’m having a quick siesta before the wedding, in my bridesmaid’s dress. The cardigan is knitted from metallic yarn and has a nude silk lining underneath which is just heavenly. Not a single pull to be found, all the buttons are coated in golden weaving too. Ah they don’t make clothes like they used to.

Thank you so much to Canberra’s The Way We Wear Vintage Fair, thank you for making my Canberra trip extra-memorable =)

I can’t wait to wear my raffia coat!

Pretty as a Petal

by cecylia on December 12, 2009

A while back I wrote a post called ‘Kate, never the wall flower’, on Miss Bosworth. With summer approaching in Melbourne, I am embracing the floral trend as the bulbs are blooming. To be honest, I prefer wearing monochromatic outfits but sometimes when I feel like a perk-up, I throw on a floral dress or scarf to brighten my mood. I especially like to wear florals on sunny days. I found some gorgeous girls in floral outfits for your inspiration and enjoyment.

This is the ultimate holiday ensemble. Wild tousled hair, tick. Dark shades, tick. Gorgeous floral caftan, tick. Bright carry-all, tick, Balenciaga, optional. Bare legs with a great tan, tick and bejewelled flat sandals, tick. floral n pretty

This is the creator of he eponymous jewellery label: Assad Mounser. She is wearing one of her creations around her neck- gorgeous strands! I adore the ruffled shoulders and her Moschino heart bag. Certainly one with fashion flair check out her dazzling jewels at her website.

jean paul gaultier waistcoat

Texting pretty: I guess only a statuesque lady like her can look so chic in a long floral dress whilst sending an SMS. I adore her brown clutch and her ruched boots- who said you have to match your accessories?

great lengths

This is a beautiful picture of a gorgeuos girl by Garance Dore. This girl is stunning and so is her cute outfit! Love the floral tunic, complete with a studded belt. I particualrly like thisphoto as Garance as really captured the youth and beauty this girl epitomizes, and her twirling hair shows a real sense of freedom of self-expression. I really want her shoes!

girl crush

This is one look that is easy to follow- easy to pack too! Bring your favourite floral dress and throw on a tux jacket and you’ve pulled off the polished look so effortlessly. And the best thing about this ensemble is, you can change your dress and have the same blazer but you will look different each time! And yes, this is a great trans-seasonal look as the tights are optional.

frilly yet polished

The mot fashionable teenage on the planet- Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes. I posted about her belt recently and here is her full outfit. Isn’t her dress divine? It has all the primary colours in perfect combination. I love her belt (again) and her brown Prada lace-up boots. This girl just knows how to make everything work to the fullest potential.

flower dress

This eclectic chic certainly caught Elle Street Chic’s attention, with her dorky glasses, denim cutoffs, gorgeous floral coat, cream YSL bag and rock-n-roll heels. 2 thumbs up for her original mix of quirky and fabulous accessories! I would love to know where she got her jacket from

Thanks for reading, start blooming today!
